Renee's Story
Life
Graduated HS, went to University of Maine, Penn State and Pitt, in persuit of a Master's degree in Genetic Counseling. Moved to Fairfax Virginia for my first job, then married Mike Laux from the class of '84 also, and we moved to Maine. He is an airline pilot and was based in Boston. We moved to Virginia Beach VA in '93, and he flew for USairways and I moved my way up the career ladder in genetic counseling to become the Coordinator of the Center for Advanced Fetal Therapy at Eastern Virginia Medical School. We moved from Virginia Beach to upstate New York in June 2006 as Mike jumped over to jetBlue and is based at JFK in NY. We lived the "high life" in Virginia Beach that comes with the stress of commuting and working long hours and after I achieved all of my career goals, we decided to simplify our life and thus the move to NY. t mentoring program, on the Prevention of Underage Drinking Task Force, and work after school supervising/mentoring teens, substitute teach and am a freelance writer for an encyclopedia company or anything that comes along. I also have a home based scrapbooking business as photography and traveling are a hobby. We love to travel and have been all over the U.S. (national parks) and to Europe a few times (Germany, Austria, Italy), and Australia and Belgium are next (one of the benefits of being an airline pilot family ..... he's gone a lot, but there are some perks too). So, I may be "retired", but I am certainly keeping myself busy. In the summer, we love organic gardening and boating and live near two lakes. So, overall, life is wonderful, especially since we have made our major life change and realized that time is short and "the best things in life, aren't things", the best thing in life is the time that we can spend with each other doing the things that we enjoy.
