Renee's Story
Life
I have been married for 14 years now. I met my husband, Peter in the town where I attended college.
My Kids:
We have 3 adopted children. Annette is 17 (going on 31). We adopted Annette in NYC when I was working there as a special education teacher in the Bronx. She has special health and developmental needs, but is a beautiful young lady whom we adore beyond words.
Trayvon was adopted July 2002. He is almost 9 and is also from the NYC area. He,like his older sister (not biological) also has some health needs, most of his are heart related. He is an inquisitive, outgoing little boy.
Joshua is our homegrown son. He is almost 12 years old. Joshua has red hair and the personality to match it!! He won the battle with a brain tumor when he was only 2 years old and now loves the WWE and school.
Marriela who is now 5 years old. Her adoption was finalized in September of 2004. She is a little peanut who comes to us from the Boston, MA area. She may be small but has a HUGE personality.
And last but not least, Cody who will be 2 next month. He was a homegrown s...Expand for more
urprise! He like his brother, Joshua, also has red hair the firery attitude to match it.
All 5 of our children inspire us and bless us everyday.
We moved from NYC in 1996 and have been in the Syracuse, NY area since.
My Job
I am a stay at home mom right now, but have my degree in Speech Therapy. I am finishing my Masters in Special Education and hope to start teaching once Cody enters kindergarten.
Workplace
I currently work part-time as a parent advocate for parents with children diagnosed with a blood or cancer disorder. I publish a newsletter that goes out to over 800 people. My main role is to meet, guide and assist parents through the difficult first hours, days and months of having their child diagnosed with cancer or a serious blood disorder. I organize and run several coffee hours weekly for parents to have the opportnity to meet one another and to answer questions "from one parent to another" who has already been there (our son was treated for a malignant brain tumor 3 years ago).
It is a wonderful, amazing, sometimes devestating, and fulfilling position!!
