Rex's Story

Right after graduation I entered the Army, served for 23 years, retired in 2003 from West Point, NY. Spent time in Germany, Georgia, New York, Hawaii, and Kentucky. Started by college before retiring, finished my accounting degree 1 year after retiring from a private school in NY; 20 years later than I had planned when I was in high school. I returned to Kentucky where I worked at a powder coating factory for 2 weeks, worked at a convience store as the assistant manager for 5 months, worked at a computer repair shop for 7 months. Then I was hired by the state of Kentucky working for the office of Auditor of Public Accounts and still presently working. The division I work in audits public officials, county clerks, sheriffs, property valuation authority (PVA), circuit clerk, and fiscal court. The fiscal court is the governing body for their respective county in Kentucky. Kentucky statute requires that public officials be audited each year. Even thoug...Expand for more
h the official knows that they will get audited, somebody always try to commit a fraud. I married a woman from Hopkinsville, KY 15 months after joining the Army. A year later we had twins, a boy and a girl; Cory and Nicole. They were born premature and spent almost 3 months in the hospital. About 6 months old Cory had his first seizure, would find out later that he had cerbal palsy, chronic lung disease, seizures all the time. I was quiet hard raising a handicapped child, but we did it. Cory died on August 27, 2006 from the medicine he had to take for years to keep him alive. Nicole married a soldier, Sean, in 2000, whom she met while we were assigned to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. In 2001 she had a baby boy, Jordan. In 2007 had a second boy, Aydan. They are currently assigned to Ft. Campbell, KY, just 30 minutes from where I live. Sean is currently deployed to Iraq and will not return until April 2009. So our home is the grandsons second home.
