Rex's Story

Life Rex is a native of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma and a 1982 graduate of Ft. Gibson High. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Political Science from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in 1986, and a Juris Doctorate from Boston College School of Law in 1989. Rex received his commission as a Naval officer in the Judge Advocate General's Corps in May 1990. Upon graduation from Naval Justice School in Newport, RI, Rex was assigned as the Assistant Staff Judge Advocate at Commander, Navy Recruiting Command in Washington DC. In 1992, Rex was assigned as the Assistant Force Judge Advocate at Naval Forces Central Command in the Arabian (Persian) Gulf country of Bahrain. While there, he provided legal advice during Operations Desert Storm, Southern Watch and Restore Hope (Somalia). Rex was then designated as the Senior Trial Counsel at Naval Legal Service Office, Guam in 1993. After a year at the NLSO, he was assigned as the last Staff Judge Advocate at Naval Air Station, Guam. From there he was transferred to the Office of the Judge Advocate General in Washington DC where he served as the Assistant Division Director, Civil Affairs and Assistant Division Director/Assistant Chief Information Officer Information Resources. Rex then became the Staff Judge Advocate to Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Group 8/Commander, EISENHOWER Battle Group and deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf in 2000 and the Baltic Sea for a major multi-national exercise in 2001. the Navy's Information Operation warriors in ensuring that their operations were in compliance with International Law. He also traveled extensively training and teaching on the law of information operations. In 2003, Rex was promoted to Commander and sent to be the Staff Judge Advocate to Commandant, Naval District Washington. In this job, he advised the Commandant on all legal matters and was an integral member of the Joint Task Force overseeing domestic operations in the nation's capitol. In September 2004, Rex volunteered to go to Iraq where he served with the Regime Crimes Liaison Office. At RCLO, Rex was in charged of exhuming mass graves to gather evidence for the prosecution of members of the Hussein regime. He led a team of over 50 civilian scientists and military personnel in the planning for, and execution of two mass grave exhumations prior to departing Iraq in March 2005. In April 2005, Rex reported to Trial Service Office East in Norfolk, VA as the Executive Officer. TSO East was the Navy's largest and busiest prosecution command, prosecuting upwards of 200 cases per year. In 2006, TSO East was reorganized and became Region Legal Service Office Mid-Atlantic, a command of well over 150 personnel stretching from North Carolina to Maine. RLSO MIDLANT remains the Navy's largest and busiest prosecution shop and provides legal advice to over 300 Navy Commands. In August 2006, Rex was the recipient of the ABA's Outstanding Career Military Service Officer award in Hawaii for his work in Iraq. Rex transferred to Naval Network Warfare Command in June 2007 where he serves as the Force Judge Advocate. He was promoted to Captain in September 2008. Rex married Treyce Knee, formerly of Woodstock, NY, in 1991. Treyce is a physician in the Navy. They currently reside in Great Bridge, VA with their sons Jason Alexander and Joshua Sevel.
