Rich (Dick)'s Story

After graduation from Suffolk University with a BS in BA (Business Administration), I was recruited to join Raytheon Corporation in their computer systems IT department. I married my high school sweet heartPeggy and moved to Chicago, Ill where I was stationed. as a Naval Supply Officer after joining the Navy. After military service I went to work for Burroughs Corporations and sold Burroughs computer systems to the financial industry. Five years later, I was recruited to join Datagraphix, then a subsidiary of General Dynamics. After several promotions, I was named Regional Sales Manager headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area. My wife Peggy and I moved to Orinda California in 1980, a semi-rural suburb of San Francisco. I was responsible for managing 8 sales districts spanning everything west of the Mississippi. Decided to enter graduate school and was accepted as a Sloan Fellow at Stanford Business School. After graduation, I joined an upstart high tech company in Berkeley CA and was responsible to help take them public and also to get recognition for their innovative gigabyte computer storage systems. That did not work out as planned and finally joined Anacomp, a customer of mine whio had been trying to recruit me to join them since my early days at Datagraphix. Not long however after joining them, the company's large scale banking sof...Expand for more
tware experiment nearly brought the company to it's financial knees. Businesses they acquired needed to e sold which I helped do. I left, and formed a Merger & Acquisition firm and represented investors and VC firms interested in cashing out and selling or merging their business investments. Tired of the pace, I gave this up to eneter the financial services business as a financial advisor. I accepted a position at Merrill Lynch and remained for nearly 6 years, then moved on to a small boutique firm in San Francisco, First Security Van Kasper with offices throughout the Western US. It was acquired two years later by Wells Fargo Investments. I took on a partner, and we left Wells Fargo Investments 5 years later to open the 1st San Francisco East Bay office for AG Edwards. Once again, after 2 years AGE was acquired by Wachovia Securities. And then again, 2 years later in the 2008-2009 financial crisis Wachovia collapsed and was acquired by Wells Fargo Securities and became a separate financial securities subsidiary of the bank known as Wells Fargo Advisors. I remained there with my partner until my retirement 12/31/17. My wife and I are now embarking on a 5-10 year journey living in Europe and elsewhere. We are excited but eventually after that or whenever we tire of living abroad, we'll return to our home in California. after joining them
