Rich's Story
Life
With over 20 years Information Technology experience, and nearly 100 yearsÃÂ of combined volunteer service, Rich Agnello has served both his profession and the community consistently and well from his Upstate New York upbringing.
Rich Agnello was born in Irondequoit, New York in 1957 and raised in Webster, New York, both east of Rochester, and attended local parochial schools, including IrondequoitÃÂs Bishop Kearney High School, where he graduated in the top two percent of his class in 1975 and completed 20 semester-hours of undergraduate study through AP and college-extension agreements.
At Bishop Kearney, Agnello was a National Honor Society and WhoÃÂs Who Among American High School Students nominee. He also earned a Varsity Letter in Soccer, along with a Degree of Distinction from the National Forensic League. During a four-year, interscholastic public speaking career that spanned 45 tournaments, he won the Monroe County American Legion oratorical contest two years in a row (the first participant ever to do so) and was a Semifinalist at the prestigious Hendrick Hudson High School tourney outside New York City.
Agnello went on to Marquette University, where he earned a BA in Speech cum laude in 1978 with an Honors Program certificate after only 3 years, as well as graduated in the top 10% of his class. During his undergraduate years, he was a Varsity Letterman in Soccer and a Diederich College of Communication student council president. Agnello was also named to Alpha Sigma Nu, WhoÃÂs Who Among American College and Universities, and International Youth in Achievement at Marquette.
He went on to the University of Denver for his graduate studies, where he earned a Master of Public Administration degree from the Daniels College of Business in only 1 year, achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA. AgnelloÃÂs collegiate experience in particular was significantly enhanced by many opportunities to address inquiries to some of the greatest leaders in the world. During his time at Marquette University and the University of Denver, Rich asked questions at public forums to Jimmy Carter, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Gary Hart, Arthur Schlesinger, William Buckley, and Bob Woodward.
AgnelloÃÂs career development began with internships with First Wisconsin Bank (now US Bank) and the City-County of Denver, prior to contract software test duties with Xerox Corporation and inventory analyst experience with Service Merchandise, both in Dallas, Texas. Following contract health claims experience at Kaiser Permanente and property revaluation work with Cole-Layer-Trumble, both in Raleigh, North Carolina, AgnelloÃÂs major IT experience commenced as a contract Client-Server Computer Operator with Nortel Networks in Raleigh. His career progressed from there to Computer Operations work for Lockheed Martin at the EPA in Raleigh, then to software test duties with Lockheed Martin for the GAO in Washington, DC.
AgnelloÃÂs IT expertise has since expanded into the functional and performance testing and test management, midrange data center, and software medical device quality assurance arenas in various locales with Electronic Data Systems Corporation, through client duties for the INS, AT&T, DoD-DFAS, the U.S. Department of Education, DoD-MHP/DBSS, MCI/Verizon Business, GMAC, and General Motors.
