Richard's Story
Life
Moved around a lot before High School graduation, attended schools from NJ to MI to CA. Always regretted not being able to actually graduate from Helix High. (Graduated from Ann Arbor Huron High, MI, Class of 69) Afterwards spent 22yrs, 5mos, & 4days in US Navy. I loved about 22yrs, 5mos, and 3 days of that time. Then one day it just got old and I called it quits!
I live in Oregon. Right now I'm still lovin' life. Been married to the same great girl since 11/2/74. (Over 40 years now) Two sons, a Daughter-in-law, and two grandson's (Connor Wesley Bishop & Wyatt Michael Bishop).
Bad news is...I'm over 60, the good news is...I'm retired!! My hobbies include writing and genealogy.
School
Always regretted not being able to actually graduate from Helix High. My family moved across the country during my high school days. All the people that I thought of as friends lived in LaMesa. I never quite got around to making real friends in my other schools.
College
HEY...college...what can I say?? I was the same age as most the professors....Expand for more
I went back to school after I retired from the Navy. That helped and that hurt. I owe a great debt to my wife Donna for being there to see me through it.
Workplace
After my stint in the Navy I returned to school for my BA degree. Afterwards we relocated from VaBch, VA to Gladstone, OR. I now work for the state helping veterans find employment. A very satisfying job. Well, as of 1 June 2009, I have retired for medical reasons. Parkinson's sucks! Good news is, I have great family support.
Military
Man! Too much to say. Some very good times and some very bad times. Some moments I shined...other moments I didn't!! There were days when I wondered how I could be so stupid as to stay in the service. There were days when no other career could compete with the Navy career. Successes and failures. Hearing the "Star-Spangled Banner" stills gives me goose bumps - I love that American Flag!!!(US Navy 1969 to 1992)
