Richard's Story
Writer/photographer. Photo-journalist. Got BA in English from Columbus College and MA in American literature from U of KY. Kept food on table by reporting for newspapers around country. Spend vietnam years on board the USS RALEIGH. Lived in Atlanta; Lexington, KY; Southwest VA; eastern seaboard in Norfolk, Portsmouth, Annapolis, Baltimore, many other places. Spent summer of 1975 camping alone in deep woods of Ontario, Canada (very proud of this). Was caver in SW VA -- climbed down the deepest hole in USA! Explored many caverns. zen articles in national magazines, "Sports Afield", "Maryland Conservationist", "Defenders of wildlife", "Fate", etc. I was a freakin' ecology nut decades before it got cool. Now I quit because so many smart-ass young kids are "ecologist" (they are actually enlightened Nazi's.) Oh, published also some real books: "Appalachian Genesis" TN, Overmountain, 2000) and "Hogs of Cold Harbor" PA, Whitmore, 2005. Published three others but not commercially. See 'em all on Amazon. Now graybeard crusty old fart-philosopher living in semi-dignity in Maryland with a great wife. Adventurous life I've had! And I kept my principles all the way though: I Never gave into the system -- I was a writer all the way through this dangerous shrinking path called livin'. I know was a shy blushing nothing in high school. Only now do I understand that the outsiders were the ones who would live free.
