Richard's Story
It is kinda hard to encapsulate everything - In Jr. High (Clear Lake Jr. High) I was part of Sing Out Colorado (Up With People), and I was in Show Choir, A'Capella Choir, a few plays, ROTC, International Relations, Science Club, etc. and I'm sure there were more.
Married to the former Sherrie Gale (pronounced 'sure-eee'), from Western High School in Anaheim, California
I was asked at one point if I wanted to graduate early and I said, NO - I was having way too much fun to leave good ol' Ranum High School early.
I kept myself busy roller skating, fishing and snow skiing. I have roller skated everywhere, and I have run down ski slopes in Colorado, California, Japan, Korea, and Hawaii (yes, they get snow on the big island). I picked up the guitar my first visit to Japan (I found a great 12-string guitar in Kowloon in 1978, and I have played a 12-string ever since.)
Joined the Marines after High School (in July, 1975) and went to boot camp in California with 4 other Raiders. I am the only one that stayed in for 20+, as far as I know. I "retired" in 1995 after 20 years of service. I met Sherrie in 1981 (in a roller rink, of course!), married her in 1982. Moved 12 times in my last 13 years of active servic...Expand for more
e, courtesy of the US Marines. Tours in Hawaii, Japan, Somalia, Desert Storm, visited Hong Kong, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Kenya, The United Kingdom, Djibouti, and Korea, Okinawa and mainland Japan. My service record records a visit to Egypt that I never made ...
My mom taught at Clear Lake (English/Lit), and my favorite overall teacher was a toss-up between Mr. Ayers (American History, - Clear Lake), Mr Zetterman (German - Clear Lake), and Mrs. Barbara Eanes Ranum Choir Director with the patience of Job) - I know of no other teacher capable and able to conduct an a'capella choir as large as the ones she managed year after year after year.
Found Mike Bowen in Florida (USAF retiree) and Tim & Laurie (Constable) Morris in Texas.
My mom (Clear Lake teacher) currently lives in Phoenix, Arizona, and both brothers still live near Denver.
I currently live in the Kansas City, Missouri area and I served as the marketing coordinator for a Crisis Pregnancy Center in Independence, Missouri. And YES... I still roller skate-
Mostly wth my grandkids.
We have 4 daughters, 12 grand-kids, and no great-grands (YET). I taught in a local community college for 6 years and retired from that position in 2011.
