Richard's Story

Life For my Florida friends, I moved away to Pennsylvania in the summer of 1971 between my junior and senior year. Since I was in Pennsylvania only one year, if you don't remember who I am, I'm the guy that always had the camera attached to his face doing photos for the Student Times at Berwick HS. After graduation, I joined the U.S. Air Force and traveled around the world for the next 20 years. I retired in 1992 as a Master Sergeant and am currently living in southeastern Michigan (near Detroit). I finally got around to going to college after I retired and graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1999 with a B.S. in Aviation Technology. My current gig is founder and Chief Technology Officer of Dundee Internet Services, Inc., a nationwide (US and Canada) Internet Service Provider for Internet access plus worldwide web and list hosting. My wife, Patricia, works with me as the company's CEO. School I was the nerd. Be nice to nerds---you'll probably end up working for one! ;^) College I did the college thing late in life. After doing a course here and there while I was in the Air Force, I finally enrolled at Eastern Michigan University with the intention of actually finishing with a sheepskin in hand. My degree is a B.S. in Aviation Technology Management. I chose this one because the department gave me lots of semester hours for my previous flight experience and pilots licenses. I figured at my age all that really counted was that I had a degree and the major did...Expand for more
n't really matter. Workplace I always thought I'd be a truck driver, just like my dad... After high school, I joined the Air Force to kill some time until I was old enough to drive a truck. However, I ended up liking the Air Force and stayed in for 20 years, retiring in 1992. Just to see what it was like, I learned to drive a semi-truck and drove all over the U.S. for 18 months after I retired. After the novelty wore off, I moved to Michigan and got a series of computer related jobs in technical support, software development, software testing, and culminating in starting my own business in 1996, Dundee Internet Services, Inc. Also, in the Fall of 2005, I began lecturing part-time (Saturday classes) at Eastern Michigan University in the College of Technology. I taught Linux Network Administration and Linux Network Security for two semesters before quitting because it was cutting into my motorcycle riding time too much! Update 2016: Still in Michigan, still running my Internet business...now in our 20th year! Still living the dream! Military I did better than I thought I would. Thank you to all the people who believed in me and helped me grow and learn along the way especially TSgt Earl Lucy (deceased), Lt Col Charles Bunce, Col Anthony Gangol (deceased), MSgt Wendell Johnson, Col David K. Burke, and Col Roger Radcliff. I hated being micro-managed and these guys never did that to me and allowed me to surprise them with my ingenuity while getting results. More later...
