Richard's Story

Well I don't know where to begin. Not much on writing an autobiographical piece especially when I know nothing about cars. Yeah bad joke, I know it. Enough of the comic relief it is now, time to be a little more serious. After graduation I kicked around the area off and on before relocating to sunny Florida in 1991. I currently work as an outside sales rep for a company that sells restaurant equipment and supplies. In addition to that i have a small cleaning business I keep on the side. (Yes that explains my slow laid back janitorial look!). And on top of all that I also operate a small karaoke business on the side. (Where are my earplugs?). One might say I am a busy man I say no I have 3 daughters. The oldest Tanya lives in Belchertown and she is 16. My other two Summer and Fallon are 11 and 9 respectively and live here. What can I say I took after my grandfather on my momther's side and had 3 girls like him. I wish that I could say that I have an exciting life but, that would be untrue. My only other claim to fiame is that I wrote a theme song for a radio talk show down here. Although it was a shortlived time . I also can claim that I play at the same bar where country music legend John Anderson started. How is that for useless musical trivia! I am currently unattached please take note ladies . I have fun being a single man I must admit. One day I believe that I will find that special lady that can put up with my foibles and my warped sense of humor. Wish there were some stories I could tell you but, I don't know if the statute of limitations is up yet. Maybe I could tell you how when I managed a pizza concept location one of my drivers added a special topping to a pizza for the group "Yes". Or how maybe I could tell you how I met this has been singer named Volcano who was on Star Search years ago. Really kind of sad and tragic to see people in the music business fall into an abyss . All in all I have met some real nice people doing karaoke shows. In fact another a person I have gotten to know is a real nice person named Jack West who wrote a number of songs for Molly Hatchet . His sweetheart Debbie B. is the real vocal star . I had the honor of playing a private party for them on the Fourth Of July and I saw her stop passerbys in their tracks when they heard her singing "Black Horse And The Cherry Tree" . Amazing! There also a couple of good friends I have. My best friend down here is my buddy Wil . He is also my youngest daughter's Godfather . Wil is not just my best friend in the world down here but , he alsmost like a big brother. He showed me the ropes of living in the city down here in Orlando. Now Wil, is a big 6'4" African-American guy of humble means . He was scouted for 3 straight years by the Green Bay Packers until he blew out his knees . Now Wil had never really see...Expand for more
n mountains before so I took him up to North Adams with me to see our famous scenery . He was absolutely amazed by the mountains of area that we all seem to take for granted. I quipped and asked him if he felt like a Fresh Air Child? By the way is that program still around? Another friend of mine is this lady named Beverly Hughes whom I have had the honor of performing with at a number of vocal shows . The harmonies she adds to some of my songs are amazing and the old lady can still rock the house with songs like "Smokin Grass". In many respects she is like a second mother to me. I have had numerous other people I have gotten to know like Butch Meyers a great guitarist formerly of Sawyer Brown. Also originally from Apopka. He is a heck of a singer in his own right and I had the honor of hearing him sing and matching him song for song at a place called the Zellwood Pub. Yeah I had to learn how to sing country music to survive in this racket. Sometimes I am still amazed when women hang all over me when I sing "Brand New Girlfriend". Ah the sadness seeing desperate middle aged women gone wild . Only kidding ladies don't shoot me. .. Now the one I have never met but, I do have a story about is Larry The Cable Guy . Now Larry started off as drop in character on the radio on a station at the time called WDIZ and the morning team show was a tandem called Ron and Ron. Needless to say they left and formed thier own station and Larry didn't know howto reach them. In the meantime the new morning person was Mark Semanski and I had become the new drop in character on WDIZ . Yes I had evolved into Mitch The Janitor until Larry started calling WDIZ again and the rest is as they say history. Yes I was replaced by Larry The Cable Guy!! I was so emotionally hurt . It . should have been my butt crack on billboards in Orlando. To this very day I want to challenge him to celebrity boxing match. Yes that was my big brush with stardom!! I almost feel like the Pete Best of radio . Almost like being replaced by Ringo Starr. Where is the justice? Besides , is Larry The Cable Guy really all that talented? Heck I could recycle jokes too. See I told you my life was pretty boring and uninteresting now perhaps you believe me. . O nly kidding kind of . What memories what memories as Lawerence Welk would say. You know every Saturday PBS in Orlando still shows his reruns . The big question is that if I am watching PBS on a Saturday evening when I am off am I really getting that old? Pardon while I take a slug of Geritol!! Well enough about me . I hope to see more stories from others if you care to bare your souls and life stories. Maybe when the feeling moves me I will write more stories for your reading and entertainment. Until then I wish everyone the best.. Rick
