Richard's Story
I attended South Side high school in 1971 (class of '73) and because my parents moved to the country, I graduated from Woodlan instead. Grew up near McMillan Park on Trentman avenue, played little league for Coverall Rental, and youth hockey at McMillan Park in junior high and high school. Our team (Clippers) even one the city championships two years in a row. Was a paper carrier for the Journal Gazette (got hit on my bike one early morning from the rear by pick up truck on Oxford street) and worked at Scott's foods from the time I was 14 until my graduation from high school. After finishing high school I began a twenty year career as a Soldier in the Military Police Corps. Assigments included Fort Knox '73 (Basic) and Fort Gordon (MP School), Fort Knox '73, '76 and '79, Lackland AFB (K-9 Training) '74, '76, and '77, Korea '75, '77, '80, Fort Benning (Officer Candidate School) '83, Fort Rucker '83, Fort McClellan '85, Germany '87 and Fort Hood '92. curity, Operations, Army Staff, K-9, and duty as a Drill Sergeant and Platoon Sergeant. In 1979 I met Minsook and we married in 1980. In 1986 our only son was born while we were assigned at Fort McClellan, Al. After my military retirement at Fort Hood, TX in 1993 I began a second career with the Army as a civilian employee working for Family & Morale, Welfare, Recreation. In 2003 I accepted an assignment to Korea, returned to Fort Hood in 2005 and returned again to Korea in 2006. Currently I am the Chief, Financial Management Division for the Installation Management Agency, Korea Region, United States Army Garrison, Humphreys. I unfortunately missed all the class reunions, and miss all my childhood acquaintances. When in town, I visit the Allen County public library to continue my work on the families genealogy and do attempt to make contact with old friends, but many of you have also since moved on. Please drop a line if you get the chance, I'd like to hear from you all, or visit me at Facebook.
