Richard's Story

Hello to all who drop by and read this short and perhaps spare account of my life. Graduated Dossin 1959 and more readily remember, or at least recognize, the names of those toward the end of the alphabet. I suppose that is because that is the way we were seated from 1st grade through high school. Went to Cadillac Jr. High from '59-'61 and Cooley High from '61-'64. Went to Wayne State for two year, got drafted and spent most of my service in Berlin, Germany as a driver in a mortar platoon. Married in '70 and divorced in '80. Have a wonderful son and a beautiful daughter-in-law. Spent most of my working life in shops and factories of various sizes that served the auto industry. That meant there were ups and downs, but I was generally able to land on my feet in a better situation. But, in 2003, the last company that I worked for in Michigan sent me an e-mail saying my position was being eliminated (I was on a vacation). After spending six months trying to get hired for anything at any wage, I took a leap of faith (?) and packed up and moved to Florida. It took a little time, but I finally got a job with a window and door company. It was great for two and a half years and we all know what happened then. Myself and about five hundred and...Expand for more
ten of my co-workers were no longer needed. Found a temporary job that lasted a year with a media research company. Since then, I have been looking for a position for almost two years. Don't know if employers don't believe I would be with them for the rest of my natural life or they are afraid of their liabilities under the new health care bill, or they picture me being called back by a company in Michigan (which is impossible since they all have closed for one reason or another), or what?????????? Don't know what their problem is because I can't get an interview. Although one company sent me an e-mail that said I didn't fit their profile to work on a garbage truck. I keep trying and hope that soon I can up-date this part of my story. My parents are alive and well as are my brother and sister. In 2000 Russell Tucker called me out of the blue and asked if I remembered him. Turns out he lives in a city I had been visiting every spring for almost ten years and works the event I attended! I don't know how many times we might have passed by each other in those ten years. Got to see him the next time I visited and a few years after that. He keeps better track of Dossin grads and I believe you could contact him on this site or facebook.
