Richard Worsfold:

CLASS OF 1963
Toronto, ON

Richard's Story

Moved to Don Mills from Agincourt in 1957. Attended Greenland Road Public School for Grade 7 and then Three Valleys Drive Public School for Grade 8. Lived on the Donalda Farms Estate in the Coach House then moved to Mallow Road area as they were turning the Donalda Farms Estate into a Country Club in the summer of 1959. Several of my DMCI classmates had come from Presteign Heights Public School near St Clair East and O'Connor including David Lovick and Gordon Gibson. They moved to Don Mills while I moved to Agincourt. Along with Don Fraser who is also on Classmates was in the first Grade 9 Class (9A) to enter the front door of DMCI in Sept 1959. Completed Grade 12 in June 1963 and started the process of joining the RCAF to become a pilot. The whole process ran on for several months so I started grade 13 and through the jigs and reels I joined the RCAF in December 1963 but not as a pilot as they decided in early November that year that the current need for pilots had expired as the RCAF started the first of its many force reductions. Stayed in the CF until July 1975. During my RCAF time lived in St. Jean PQ, Clinton ON, Barrie ON, Winnipeg MA, Kingston ON (attended Queen's U), Ottawa ON. Spent the summer...Expand for more
of 1968 based in Lahr West Germany. During my time in Ottawa was a part time student at Carleton University. The summer I spent in Lahr was DMCI eventful. I met Murry Ashford who was travelling around Europe and who was visiting his brother living in Soest (the Canadian Army Base) Ernie Ashford a classmate in Grade 12, Ellen Elliott (I believe the name is correct- memory sometimes goes after all these years) who was travelling with friends around Europe, and when I was getting on the plane to come home on a plane that was just emptying its passengers Mr. Bissett the math teacher who was coming to Lahr to teach for a year at the military school got off. It really is a small world. Other DMCI classmates I crossed paths with while in the Canadian Forces were Ian Falle and Steve Lenaghan. I left the military in the summer 0f 1975 and moved to Newfoundland for 10 years. Working at Memorial University (also taking courses part time), ran my own company for five of those years (part time at MUN as a sessional lecturer for one term), then to finish up in St John's I ran an east coast office for a Calgary Company. Retuned to the Toronto area in 1985 and worked in the Aerospace and Space industry for 35 years.
