richard's Story
My wife and I live in Falls Church, Virginia. We met in South Viet-Nam while serving on the same MACV/CORDS Advisory Team in the Mekong Delta. We married in 1972 and remained in South Viet-Nam until the fall of Saigon in 1975. We have one son (a computer security engineer), a daughter-in-law (an attorney), and three grand-kids (two boys aged 10 and 8, and a girl aged 5)..
I am retired from the United States Foreign Service. Lived/worked overseas for 30+ years, primarily in Africa (9 years) and Southeast Asia (16 years). Favorite place: Singapore.
Evacuated from Saigon during the fall of South Viet-Nam in April, 1975; evacuated from N'Djamena, Chad by the French Foreign Legion in 1979 during a Muslim - Christian civil-war; ordered out of Indonesia in late 2002 after terror bombings in Bali and Jakarta and daily anti-American demonstrations. , however, remained in Jakarta as an essential American Embassy employee. My wife retired from the Foreign Service in 2016 but remains on call for "special" short-term (one year or less), overseas assignments. I recently followed her as she worked in Rangoon, Burma (Yangon, Myanmar) in 2017, and in Singapore in 2018. (We also lived in Singapore from 2003 - 2007).
Hobbies: Playing with my grand-kids, working in the yard (whenever its warm), reading history books, watching Fox News (Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity), One America News, Newsmax TV, and New Tang Dynasty (NTD) Television, as well as listening to Chris Plante, Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin. Favorite poem: Invictus by William Ernest Henley. Favorite films: Romance of the Three Kingdoms and My Fair Princess (Return of the Pearl Princess). Languages: Vietnamese, French, Indonesian and Thai.
