Rick's Story

Where do I start. Well, I got my travel bug out of my system, at Northwest Orient Airlines. I took a couple of years off between sophomore and junior year of University. After Oglethorpe University I moved up to Toronto with a friend of mine. I did some teaching of Travel Agency, Typing and Business English at a small private Community College. The school closed after a few years and did some supply teaching. It was great fun, but things were starting to fall apart in the education system. I took a job selling Office Furniture and Equipment and that was quite rewarding and was able to move just north of Toronto. I lost my partner 10 years ago and have been on my own ever since. I really should get a photo on here, guys. I know you ALL remember my front teeth.....yes, there is a major change. Sit down, please.....for my 50th birthday, my niece and her family took me to a Braves game in the new Turner Field. Well, during the break between innings, the left fielder was throwing the ball back and forth with one of the bat guys. I turned to speak to my niece and next thing I heard was DUCK !!!! BALL COMING !!!! then it hit...right smack in the middle of my mouth. I did not black out but everyone around jumped to help. I just wanted to get the heck out of the stadium. After a visit to Crawford Long Hospital, I came back and $5,000.00 later have a smile that I can actually smile about. It's a great feeling. Every time I go in for a check up the hygienist always remembers my ...Expand for more
sitting for hours on end in the chair being treated for that. It turned out pretty good, too. I left the Furniture and Equipment business and have been doing Telephone Directory advertising. It was great fun, and I am cutting back a bit, but not ready to retire yet. I still want to do something. We'll see where that leads. Well, everyone in the Class of 1965, I miss you ALL !!!! There isn't a day that goes by that I don't remember someone from Tucker. Always good, by the way. Hope to see some of you soon. I, like everyone else, am keeping pretty much here at home, during this covid-19 crisis. I hope & pray, every day, for all my classmates, and their families, for health & strength. My little Church here in Barrie, has been having "virtual Church" which has worked out quite well. It's a great source of strength in these troubling times. I was so sad to hear that our 55th Class Reunion has to be delayed, but I am still planning on attending. It's been way too long, and I would like to share some time with everyone. I came home to see my oldest great-niece graduate from High School. I took time to visit Tucker High School, and it was in final exam week, so I couldn't go much past the front office. I took time, though, to see the many items the have in that small room, near the front. I found a lot of pictures, and the memories they brought back to me. Take care, my friends, and hope to see as many as can come, to the Reunion. Y'all are in my Prayers, as always....... Rick
