Robert A.G. (Gus)'s Story

I am writing this on behalf of my father, Gus Hankinson from New Baltimore, PA. I decided to google Hamilton, Massachusetts and Carmelite. My father had attended the school for two years and told me about his time there. It was the one of the most difficult but rewarding times he had. Unfortunately my father died of cancer in August 2007. It is with hope that I can reach out to former classmates to find out more stories of my Daddy and his time at Hamilton. Although my father did not complete his time here due to family obligations and graduated from Berlin Brothersvalley High School in 1958, I am hoping that there are still some classmates that will see my post here. My favorite story that Daddy would humor me again and again with was about dinnertime. As I understand even though the meal was served family style, everyone had to be quiet and respectful. Also, everyone received his turn (the first one served changed every meal), However, there seemed to be someone who took too much and the others down the line would get too little. Someone (who is now nameless to me) decided to take matters into their own hands and deter this other person from taking anymore by effectively utilizing his fork that someone...Expand for more
's arm. Then, there was the story about someone taking too many pats of butter. To help out this person, someone else decided to launch a pat of butter from his fork, but it landed in the person's face who was next to the said culprit. My father would be 68 on April 12 if he had lived. I am hoping that someone would be nice enough to drop me a line if they remember my Daddy - Gus Hankinson. Even though I have not yet been to Massachusetts, my father had a good way of telling a story to make you think you were there. I miss his stories dearly even though growing up I used to roll my eyes when he would tell me the story for the umpteenth time. Now I crave the sound of his words. I will have to find a picture of him during his time at Hamilton. I know that my father is looking down on me now. Before he died, he stressed to me that he had lived a good life and was very thankful for his wife, two daughters and son. He had traveled to many places in the world and was grateful for the many experiences and lessons that he had been taught. When he died, it was very peaceful. I believe that the Lord was there to receive him after he left us in Polk, Ohio. God Bless and look forward to hearing from someone soon.
