Robert "Eric"'s Story
I was more commonly known as "Eric Adams", and I still go by my middle name. I was known as being very artsy... I still occasionally draw. Building models was always an avid interest and still is. I married Peggy Lucas in 1992, who I first met in the 3rd grade back in my hometown of Fortville, Indiana. I started 7th grade in Ramsey Middle School after Dad was transferred from Indianapolis to New York City for AT&T, in 1966. After graduation in 1972 I attended Montclair State until 1976, majoring in Fine Art, and Theatre set design and stage lighting. And a bit of costume design as well. Instead, I ended up in Oregon in 1977 and sold insurance for 15 years and became a stockbroker for PaineWebber. So much for the Art & Drama career... Since the PaineWebber days, (PW was sold), I've worked for AT&T, Quest Communications, and now, the City of Portland.
All during this time, Peg and I were never able to concieve a child and I greatly regret never having the privilege of being a Father. Oh, well.... I never aged beyond my shoe size anyway. But, as a freshman at RHS in '69, my brother Doug and I actually went to WOODSTOCK and sat before Jimmy Hendrix and the DOORS. We caught hell when we got home!!! Ah... those were the days, huh?
When I want to relax I like to take a spirited drive on curvy roads in my vintage 1989 BMW E30 M3. A veritable race car. Or spend it in my shop building 'plank on frame' scratch built models of period sailing vessels for museums and restoring antique heirloom ship models for clients who find me online at the Nautical Research Guild ...Expand for more
website. Peg and I like to go to the Oregon Coast and the beach.
I always wanted to be a fine art painter when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were absolutely right, but life just didn't turn out that way. After college, basic economics was the immediate priority and I up and left for an 8 week temporary job in Idaho. I eventually ended up as a surveyor of logging roads up at 7500 feet in elevation, for the US Forest Service. It was seasonal until the first snow in December of '76. When that ended, I drove to Portland, Oregon to find work to earn enough money to come back to Ramsey, and complete my BA at Montclair. When I arrived in Portland, Oregon, within a week I found myself in the insurance business and well, the rest as they say is history. Funny how the simplest of decisions, like "going to Idaho" in my case, can just absolutely change your whole life. I really miss all my old friends I had in Ramsey, Allendale, and Mahwah, and Montclair. All I can say is "Come to Portland, Oregon, you'll never look back!!! It's the Micro Brew beer captial of the world! Gee, have any of you ever caught on a fly rod, a 15 pound Steelhead or Chinook Salmon? Or gone hunting for Elk in virtually your backyard, or skied down 11,000 foot Mount Hood that's only an hour's drive away? It's all here!!!
Heck, we even have the annual world famous "Naked Night Bike Ride" !!! This June, 2010, only 13,000 NAKED PEOPLE rode through downtown Portand!! And none of them got arrested!!! When's the last time that happened in Ramsey?
