Robert's Story
I am living in Rhode Island, been here for the past 15 years, live here with my wife and 2 dachshunds.
I have 2 children and 4 grandchildren who live in the Central Mass area.
I have been working for Navy stores for the past 10 years, as a Network Engineer. I specialize in working with Cisco equipment. I do a lot of traveling with them all over the east coast.
I got back into running in early 2005. after 23 years of not running because of an injury. I got so overweight that one day, I said enough is enough and I started slowly running one mile, that was pure hell that first time and kept going, I eventually lost 50 pounds over the that next year. Today I run a lot of races in the Masters division both on the road and on the track. I have run last 5 years in the steeplechase. I travelled out to MN, National Masters Track championships where I competed in the steeplechase 4th place and the 10K 6th place on the track. In 2011, placed 2nd in the Steeplechase at the Nationals in Ohio. Took first in the NCCWMA steeplechase in ...Expand for more
2012. As I get older, the steeples are tougher to get go over.
I have represented the USA in the NCCWMA masters track and field championships in 2008 against the best in the Western Hemisphere, placed 3rd in the steeplechase that year. In 2012 at the Championships, I took 1st in the Steeplechase in Canada. People from North, Central and South America and the Caribbean competed. 2 weeks after competing back from Canada, my knee decided to give in during a race, after a operation and extensive therapy, was able to get back to running, but have continued to compete on a national level in the mile and 3000m in between injuries.
Seeing I work under the DOD umbrella, and the position I am in, I have to go though security clearance,
The NCIS investigator asks me the standard questions then he gets to do I drink, I say no, I donât, he says, how come, are you a recovering alcoholic or what is the reason, why I donât drink, I told him not all Irish drink.
.
At the end of the day, ask yourself, "Did you do your best today."
