Robert's Story
After graduating in May 1961, I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was based at Lackland Air Force Base,(San Antonio) Texas for basic training before transferring to Anderson AFB (Agana) Guam. Got chased out of Guam because of Typhoon Karen in 1963. Next few years were split between Bunker Hill (Grissom) AFB, (Peru/Kokomo)Indiana and Clark AFB, (Angeles City)Philippines. Switched gears in 1966 and was assigned to Sheppard AFB, (Wichita Falls) Texas as a Communications Instructor. Vietnam summoned me for two years (1969-71). o my final assignment, Patrick AFB, (Cocoa Beach) Florida. I retired in 1981 as E-6 after 20 years military service and spent the next 20 years with the Florida Department of Corrections, retiring in 2002 as Lieutenant. During the 1990's I was an Adjunct Professor at Brevard Community College Cocoa/Melbourne at the Law Enforcement Academy. In conjunction to teaching Corrections Operations and Procedures, I facilitated Cultural Diversity Training for local, state and military agencies. In December 2000 I went to New Zealand for the first time and during 2001 made three more visits. In June 2002 I moved permanently to New Zealand where I have Permanent Residence Status.
