Robert's Story
I had a wonderful time at Union High and really enjoyed the memories from my time there. Track meets, classes, hanging out in the hall, clowning around by the attendence office, but I wanted to get out and see the world. I got an offer to run track for Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti (Ip-sa-lan-ti) Michigan and decided to go to school there after graduating.
I majored in Chemistry and minored in German and Biology which took me 5 years instead of the "normal" 4. I decided to go to school in Ypsi, as we call it, because it was 40 minutes west of Detroit, the home of GM, Ford, Chrysler, and at one time Motown. It is also just due east of Ann Arbor, Michigan, home of the University of Michigan, the Wolverines. place so I stayed. Now, it's not so rural and the skies aren't quite as blue due to pollution, but I still love Michigan.
After I graduated, I spent almost 6 years working for IBM, after which I spent another 6 years working for a subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. I started working for IBM in 1978 after graduation and met my future wife the next year. We dated for 4 years and we got married in 1981. In 1985 I had my first son Shane, followed by my second son Adam in 1990. I got divorced in 1996 and have been living the single life since. Right now Michigan is going through a horrendous economic situation, but hopefully that will change in the near future.
I love Michigan, but I will always be a Union guy at heart. Union, the place I couldn't wait to get away from, but the place that always stays in my heart.
