Robert's Story
College

I never thought it would take five years to get a two-year degree, but somehow it worked out that way. Just before we graduated I figured out I wouldn't be going to Colorado Springs because DODMERB was dragging their heels and scheduling me for extra tests after the admissions deadline. During that summer I was accepted to Norwich University, a small, primarily military college in central Vermont. I soon found out, however, that these guys were out of their minds and I wanted to leave. However, having no car and a myriad of financial difficulties, I could not withdraw in time and officially flunked everything. Furthermore, this caused me to lose aid when I tried to transfer to CCCC (now CSM) the next semester.
It took me three more semesters to get back into school because of money problems. I started off at CSM part-time in fall 2001, and entered the concert choir. At the end of that year I had about a 3.85 GPA and made the Deans' List. I continued part-time in 2002-2003 and entered the chamber choir as well as the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. At the end of the year I was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges, and The National Dean's List, in addition to the collegeÂs Deans List. I also became president of the...Expand for more
Phi Theta Kappa chapter.
This past year was pretty big. I finally was able to enroll full-time, and because of the honor society I got more active in college affairs. I was busy trying to rebuild the chapter throughout the year and get things going, though it was a constant battle. Things look promising for the new folks next year, though. At the end of the year I received the President's Cup for being the most outstanding student leader college-wide, and was inducted into the Student Leader Hall of Fame. I ended up with a 3.91 GPA and made the Deans List twice more, in addition to graduating with highest honors, receiving an AA in Arts and Humanities. I was also named to The National Deans List for a second time. When I continue school in 2005 (I'm still looking at places) I will be double majoring in geography and history.
Workplace

I haven't worked very much during post-school years, but I'm looking for a job right now. Late in 2001 I worked at Wal-Mart in Waldorf for a couple of months. During the past year I worked at CSM as a tutor during the 2003 summer sessions and as an office assistant during part of the 2003 fall semester. Since I just got my AA I'm looking for something again so I can save up for more school next fall (2005).
