Robert's Story
School
I started my schooling in Vancouver BC at Captain James Cook Elementary School in 1979. I was a student there until 1985, when I moved to Powassan, Ontario where I was a student at Powassan Junior Public School (1985-1986) and Maple Ridge Senior Public (1986-1988).
While at Captain James Cook I went by the name Robbie. Also the thing that distinguished me between other students at the school was the fact that I was the only physically disabled student. During my years at Captain James Cook I used crutches.
When I moved to Brampton I was a student at Brampton Centennial Secondary where I was once again the only disabled student for 2 years, using a manual wheelchair to get ...Expand for more
around. I was a shy student who mainly stayed to myself, preferring not to interact with other students, but always very friendly to others. One of my best friends was Paul Harmon, a fellow Christian who just happened to have the same birthday, April 8th. Tragically he was killed in a car accident in 1991. I will never forget how much he helped me during my early days at BCSS. Thanks Paul.
Also I would like to thank the counselling staff at BCSS between 1988-1992 for involving me in the activities of BCSS and getting me involved in wheelchair. The image of winning my first race will always remain with me.
Thank you to everyone who made my BCSS years good years to remember.
