Robert's Story
Life
Currently, I now have moved to Florida, back in February of 2007, and will remain in Florida until my son reaches his 18th birthday, or graduates high school, Florida's nice but its not home, my mother has been quite ill for sometime, and I wanted to be close during this time, she was there when I needed her, and I want to be there for her now. I retired from the Navy, March 2006, after 18 years an early retirement due to medical reasons. Numerous surgeries and health issues have been keeping me running against the V.A. health system of late. if a military doctor says surgery is best... GET A SECOND OPINION, or THIRD IF NEED BE. I've been working as a patient chef at IMPERIAL POINT MEDICAL CENTER, in FT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA since April of 2007, just over a year already, after spending more than a year convalescing from my major health maladies... I joined the navy 4 months after graduation from college, in 1988, to see the world before I commited myself to a serious endeavor, I ended up enjoying the travels seen all of Asia, you name , I've been there, been to London, England courtesy of the navy as well, I was a MESS Specialist 1st class, a grand title for a cook in the navy. I have spent most of my career working in the officers dining area, doing special functions, catering meals for dignitaries, but its one of a few things you can do in your field and still travel.
a. Me and my wife are also going to breed German Shepards. They are a wonderful and loyal family dog, and truly give meaning to being mans best friend. I love life and couldn't imagine being anywhere else.
College
The Culinary Institute of America was and is the best thing I have ever...Expand for more
done with my life, it gave me the foundation in foodservice which I didnt have to start with, and the confidence of knowledge of self assurance that my foods are always the best. Most of all, I love being part of something that was then and is now the very best, and all of my memories of the CIA are of the best times in my life!! I am hoping that I can re-connect with my former classmates, and stay in touch, its been 20 years since I was a student there, but it still feels like home, Always!!
Workplace
Well, where do I start, I spent most of my life working in the field I love most, doing what I do best, CULINARY ARTS, HOTEL/MOTEL Management, I've been assigned to the Batchelor Officer Quarters in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, but I really miss getting my hands into some foods and creating the best foods that can be made, I will go back to doing what I love most, cooking. I hope that anyone who I was friends with at the many places I've worked at, will get in touch, good friends are for keeps always!
Military
Well, I never expected to stay in more than 3 years in the navy, but, now I've retired after 18 years of honorable service. I have truly enjoyed seeing the world, courtesy of the navy. I have been to places that people only dream about. The best thing, though, about being in the navy and going places, is the friendships made along the way. I have made some of the best friends I'll ever have in the navy. I have served in some great commands, and some, well one definitly, that wasn't so good, due the incompetence of the CPO I worked for, CSC (sw) R.O. Reed, but at every command good or bad, the comraderie with my shipmates made it the best times of my life.
