Robert's Story
Life
Retired from Colorado State University in 2004 after 40 years teaching in Civil & Environmental Engineering Department. My wife, Joan (Lohmeyer), and I have two children Brett (born 1968, GIS programer) and Donna (born 1970, Accountant Auditor), and two grand children (Teagan,born 2004, and Shayne, born 2006). I keep active as a volunteer (Master Naturalist, Trail Host), consulting for engineering firms and legal firms, providing public presentations, and acting as a grandfather.
School
I graduated from Montgomery Blair High School, Silver Spring, Md. in 1955. I was active in various school clubs and societies, but was primarily a nerd. Supported myself to college as an Engineering Coop Student with the Naval Ordnance Laboratory, White Oak, MD (now gone) to attend the U. of Tennessee from 1955-1960.
College

ries Scholarship my senior year. Participated in Sigma Nu, social fraternity, and was also a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Tau Sigma, and Tau Beta Pi, honor societies.
Graduated from U. of California, Berkeley, in 1965 with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. Received Woodrow Wilson Scholarship, General Electric Scholarship, and also worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and a Graduate Research Assistant. While in school I was active as a member of the Corinthians organization of the 1st Presbyterian Church, Berkeley. Served as President during 1965. Met my wife, Joan, and we were also married in 1965.
Military
Participated in Army ROTC program at U. of Tennessee from 1955-1956. Otherwise no military service. Was sent a draft notice after graduating from U. of California, Berkeley, in 1965, but was given a deferment as an academic working in a critical area. Subsequently performed research for Department of Defense, both Army and Navy, as part of the Wind Engineering research program at Colorado State University.
