Robert's Story

Hobbies since HS included electronics and cycling. Since I never figured out how to become a professional cyclist I went the simple route and went to Cittone Institute to become an Electronic Technician. I first worked at Radio Shack in sales and Sear & Roebuck in the electronic repair department. A year later switched jobs to BOC in Murray Hill where I stayed for 7 years before leaving for a programmers position in a small start-up company in PA. They went bust 2 years later so I was unemployed for about 4 years. During that time, I worked for a landscaper building my muscles, Sprint installing DSL and myself doing home computer and electronic repair and training. Then I met my wife through a mutual friend and found a job working on computers for a parochial school on Summit, NJ, only to start working on September 10th, 2001. The next day forced me to make a hard decision. To try to get my old job back at BOC after leaving 6 years earlier due to . . . let's just say employee friction. The position I had and was seeking to get back was a government contract and more stable position than most I had for the past 6 years. This move led me down to Tennessee to Teledyne Brown Engineering where I still am a Sr. Engineeringm Assistant and have finally completed an AS degree in Electrical Engineering. as always building and fixing things. I still tinker around with cars, lawn mowers and working on our house (which takes precedence). Thinking of getting off the grid and becoming more environmentally friendly but that will be in the future. There are many groups close by that I can join to aid in this effort. It seems that more people are thinking this way these days and knowing a little about electronics, it is fairly simple to start thinking green. Picked up the VW "bug" again and purchased a camper to tinker with. It's just enough for the two of us to get away for short weekenders. I still bike ride from time to time and should be doing more than I am today. But as we all know, time marches on and our lives change. I miss those days when we had the ability to just pickup and go somewhere without having to adjust too many things in your schedule. Some people have found their niche to keep that same philosophy. More power to them! I, for one, am happy with what I do and where I am. Out of College in 1987. Still taking night courses toward a BS degree. Had 8 different jobs with 7 different companies. Married Patrice Christy in 2006. Honeymooned at Niagara Falls. Moved to Tennessee in 2007. Finally completed my AS degree in Electrical Engineering in 2012. Love the outdoors/exploring. Work on Electronics/Computers.
