Robert's Story
After transferring from Colonial Heights High School, I graduated from the Fork Union Military Academy, attended Virginia Tech and graduated in 1969. I worked in private business for a few years, got married and divorced, and entered the Foreign Service of the United States in early 1976.
I served as a foreign service officer for 23 years, in Saudi Arabia, Colombia, Indonesia, Washington, DC, Austria, the United Arab Emirates, Germany and Belgium before retiring from the Foreign Service in 1998. I met my wife, Nike, while I was posted in Saudi Arabia. (She was posted at the Netherlands Embassy.) We have been married for nearly 35 years and have two daughters and one grandson.
Following my first retirement, I worked on a variety of projects, including as an outreach educator with the Science Museum of Virginia and helping to get the American Civil War Center up and running.

me basis to assist in providing coverage for management activities in overseas embassies. This turned into a full-time project as management director for the G8 Summit meetings in Sea Island, Georgia followed by another project working on the OAS General Assembly in Fort Lauderdale, FL. In 2007 I was asked to join the staff of the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations of the Department of State on a one-year contract. Well, after 7 1/2 years working there (I must have done something right.) I decided to retire again and move back to the Richmond area. Nike and I are now living in western Chesterfield County.
On the travel front, I have managed to visit countries all over the world, including several that are very much off of the beaten path. The most remote were the Micronesian Islands and East Timor. I guess that I managed to hit about 50 or 60 during my careers.
I look forward to attending the 50th reunions of CHHS and FUMA.
