Robert's Story
From high school, I joined the military - US Air Force as a Security Policeman/Dog Handler in February 1983. After graduating from basic training, I went to the police academy and then onto dog school where I learned how to handle a police dog.
Sheppard AFB, Texas was my base assigned. During which time I was sent back to Lackland AFB, Tx for Explosive Detector Dog School. After graduating from that school, it was back to Sheppard AFB. I served there until June 1984. I received orders to Korea.
Prior to going to Korea, I was sent to pre-ranger school at Camp Bullis, Tx. Upon graduating that school, I was stationed at Kwang ju, AB, ROK. I was in that hell hole for one year too many. From August 1985 to August 1986.
From there I was sent to heaven - Soesterberg AB, The Netherlands. Best kept secret in the Air Force. I was stationed there for 5 years until the end of 1990.
While in Holland, I meet my future wife Sally Stevens from a little town outside of Boston. We were married on February 1989.
Also while there I played soccer for the base team and got to travel all over Europe playing soccer as the starting keeper. ...Expand for more
From Holland, I was reassigned back to the states - Mountain Home AFB, Idaho from 1991 to the end of 1992.
While there, my daughter was born in 1992. Currently she is a freshman at SUNY Oswego. Once my enlistment was up, we moved back to Syracuse. Bought a house close to Corcoran and had another child, my son. Currently he's in 8th grade.
I work at Bristol-Myers Squibb in East Syracuse for the past 16+ years as the Security Operations Administrator for the Security Department. I run the day to day operations.
Besides that I really haven't left Corcoran. I have been the keeper coach/assistant coach for the boy's varsity soccer team starting my 11th year.
I also work for the AD by doing various other jobs like working the stand during football games, running the shot clock for girl's basketball or whatever else she needs me to do. This past year I was the Modified Girls Softball coach for Corcoran.
I enjoy umpiring little league baseball and softball. This past summer I was selected to umpire the NY State 10-11 Softball Championship Tournament, with hopes of some day umpiring at the Little League World Series.
