Robin's Story
Life
I'm married and have 1 daughter who is 14, 3 dogs, and 1 cat. The newest family member is Peaches, a 3 year old golden retriever we adopted from a rescue site when she was 9 weeks old. She has absolutely the best temperment ever and is a real peach. My 13 pound Maltese mix wrestles with her just like he did when she was his size and sometimes even pins her down even though she now weighs in at 75 pounds. Cute.
I'm a Trauma Nurse Practitioner at a large university hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center in Southern California. After nearly 20 years in ER and ICU as a registered nurse, I decided to return to school to obtain my Master's degree. During graduate school at UCLA I was accepted into a dual program, so I am licensed as an Acute Care Clinical Nurse Specialist as well. Full time graduate school, part time ER job, along with a home and family added a few more gray hairs but I managed to survive and do well. (Also, have a great colorist to take care of that gray:) I received an excellent education at UCLA-it is one of the top 10 Masters in Nursing programs. I loved attending UCLA so sorry Sooner fans, but Go Bruins! Yes, I know their footbal team kinda sucks right now--I'm married to a hard core Sooner fan. We compromise and hang the Sooner flag out front 1 week and the Bruin flag the next week. (...Expand for more
At least it's not USC)
My life has had it's ups and downs, but it has been full and for the most part pretty good. I was kind of a late bloomer in that I spent the first decade after high school working full time and didn't start college until my late 20's. Who knew I'd just keep going back to get more degrees over the years. I have been married for 37 years to my high school sweetheart, Carl, who works in aerospace for the Department of Defense.
I finally gave birth to my beautiful daughter, Kelsy, after several years of trying to have a child. I feel very blessed to have her. She is the light of my life and keeps me young.
I still have many goals to achieve. I have taught Advanced Cardiac Life Support and have lectured to nurses and nursing students a for several years, so now I teach nursing part time at a community college. What better way to influence the future nurses who will be caring for my generation in our old age.
I also plan to write at least one book, once I have the time. I'm pretty verbal and I have lots of stories to tell. Of course, I'll call them fiction to protect the guilty. My preferrence would be to spend a year in Maui writing, but I probably will have to settle for the occasional vacation there. I love it there! I could easily go 3 or 4 times a year if only..............
