Roger's Story

Hello friends. Ok, where do I start? After graduating from John Rennie in 1963 I went to Lindsay Place to take grade 12. High school years were a good time. I met many wonderful friends, some of whom I am still in contact with. Macdonald College followed for the first two years of the McGill education program. Downtown McGill followed and I received my education degree. While in university I played basketball for both Macdonald and McGill. After graduating, I got a job teaching at Beaconsfield High School. I taught there for seven years, and got married. In 1975 we left Montreal for PEI. PEI was a great place to bring up kids. We have a daughter, Lindsay, who was born in 1981. Trevor, our son, was born in 1983. In PEI I taught at Kensington High School, mainly math courses but had some chemistry thrown in as well. I eventually got into the computer world and taught computer related courses for the last 10 or 12 years of my career. I also worked part time for the PEI Department of Education running a trial computer communication project with the Maritim...Expand for more
e telephone companies. I helped introduce the Internet to Island schools, eventually helping PEI to become the first province in Canada to have every school connected to the Internet. In 2001, as my hearing deteriorated I decided it was time to retire. My hearing got worse over the years, eventually getting to the point where hearing aids no longer helped. In 2009 I got a cochlear implant done in Halifax. That was a changing point in my life. My whole world opened up to me again. I no longer retreated into my own world but rejoined the big world out there. I started reconnecting with people I hadn't talked with in years, and in many cases, decades. I feel a part of the world again. My marriage had been a struggle for many years, much of it the result of my hearing problems, and we separated. I didn't know what was in store for me. Many of my friends helped me out. I now look forward to a new life. That about sums up my life, ignoring the golf, basketball, and photography. I would be happy to hear from any of you so don't be afraid to drop a line.
