Janice Howard-Nix:  

Even though I did not get to graduate with the class of 1978, I consider myself a graduate of Ravenna. I knew most from kindergarten up through Brown Jr. I was a cheerleader, student council as well as a gymnast during that part of my life. I came to Alabama in 1979, finished nursing school in 1982. I married in 1986 and moved to Orlando. We were navy so we moved frequently. I have lived in Saratoga Springs NY, Charleston SC, Amelia Island FL, and Freeport FL and now I am back in Alabama. I am divorced. I have two grown children, Angela and Benjamin; I have two grandchildren, Julian and Abbigail. As I mentioned, I went to nursing school and became a nurse, my true passion. I worked my way through school by bartending, which I learned by watching while I worked a cocktail waitress. It did not take me very long to decide I wanted to have a barrier between me and patrons. I was young, did not drink or know what any drinks by name except the obvious, jack-n-coke, crown-n-7 etc... To give you an example on how naive I really was, I while working as a cocktail waitress a patron asked "Do yall have any Colorado Mother F**kers in here", I replied "No but there's a bunch from Alabama".
