Roger's Story

I'm currently co-owner of Pacific Rim Camera. We are one of the leading vintage/collectible/classic camera firms, world-wide. Things are going well...we have several employees, and have almost outgrown our warehouse in Salem. We sell everything from 19th century wet-plate cameras to modern DSLRs. You can see our 12,000 item catalog at pacificrimcamera(dot)com, or visit us on eBay at pacificrimcamera. My current music projects are the alternative rock bands Diva, and Tribe of the Outcast...I play guitar in both groups. You can hear our music at myspace(dot)com(slash)tribeoftheoutcast. Tribe is fronted by an Opera singer, so we do classical and acoustic shows as well as electric music. After high school, I worked at a research lab at OHSU for a year, then attended the University of Oregon, where I received a degree in Music. After college I lived in the village of Manson, on Lake Chelan, Washington for a couple of years. I worked as a sous-chef at a nice resort, and spent most of my time-off photographing the North Cascades and Pasayten Wilderness. The Lake Chelan area is amazing, and I could have lived there for my whole life, but I returned to Portland in 1982 to get into the original music scene. I played bass and lead guitar in several alternative rock bands, including Napoleon's Mistress, Heart of Darkness and Diva. Napoleon's Mistress made a record, and was being groomed for signing by Arista...Expand for more
Records, but a potent mix of greed, hubris and stupidity resulted in the project blowing up on the launch pad. After a decade of playing in the clubs and dealing with dysfunctional, drug-addled musicians, I called it quits for a while, and got into the vintage/collectible camera and antiques business. I operated my own business for several years, before merging with Pacific Rim three years ago. I got back into music in 2005, when an old band-mate called and invited me to play bass in Tribe of the Outcast. I thought I had hung my spurs up for good, but the music was so cool, I had to do it. In 2010, Diva, my popular grudge band from the 1990's, was invited to perform at one of the Farewell Satyricon shows commemorating the closing of Portland's iconic punk club. The band was re-formed with Tribe of the Outcast members as the stage band. The success of the Satyricon show resulted in the decision to record new Diva music, and we will be including guest Diva appearances at many of our Tribe of the Outcast shows. I don't have much time to get deep into the wilderness these days, but I still get out to do back-country photography when I can. I have been busy posting my photographs on Panaramio. My role at Pacific Rim Camera occasionally sends me out on road trips for buying, some recent trips through the Rocky Mountain states resulted in finding some cool cameras, and shooting some good images.
