Roger's Story
Life
My Spouse
We met on a blind date set up by my brother, she was a classmate of his from elementary thru high school. Would never have thought life would be this good with one person for this long 25 years ago. We spent 25 yr anniversary in Kauai, maybe new retirement home?
My Kids
Amber is 23, got married last June 5 to a wonderful guy, Steve, whom she has been dating since HS senior prom. They are living in Dana Point. She just graduated this year 2 weeks ahead of me from the Interior Design Institute in San Diego. She was hired as a junior designer at a international design firm in Costa Mesa. She has an incredible walk with the Lord, has been to China & Mexico on Missions trip. Was an above average soccer player played for El Toro, and traveled all of California to Hawaii to the Netherlands.
Elliot is 19 and was just finding his way, working with his Mom at a CPA firm when he was diagnosed with stage 4 T-cell acute lymphoblastomic lymphoma. Our lives have taken a dramatic change since his diagnosis in February. He is on an extremely aggressive chemotherapy protocol which by the grace of God is working, they have technically claimed him to be in remission. He is halfway through the protocol requiring 1 week a month in the hospital until September. He has come to appreciate life in a way many 19 yrs old do not normally experience for another 5-10 yrs.
UPDATE
Elliot celebrated his 20th birthday at Disneyland in Oct 2006 after receiving a "complete response to treatment" from his Drs. In Nov, he began to get facial paralysis and it was discovered he had 3 cancer cells in his spinal fluid. He...Expand for more
began a new shorter chemo treatment. On Dec 27 we took him into ER again due to weakness we attributed to low platelet count, which was normal for him after getting chemo. We were shocked to find most of his organs were shutting down from the accumulated chemo treatments. Drs. told us he had developed leukemia and was on a fast downward spiral. My men's soccer team from Saddleback Church showed up and we had alot of intensive prayers go up. The next day all of Elliot's symptoms improved, with the leukemia disappearing in 2 days. He was moved to CCU for 2 days and then to a regular room to wait for his platelet count to recover. He was then to go City of Hope for a bone marrow transplant as they had 9 potential matches waiting. On Jan 9, 2007, however, we received a call from the hospital that Elliot was unresponsive and we got there before 6:30 in time to hear the Dr. call the time of death. Our lives have changed dramatically since that day, we know we are changed forever. Having lost my mother, all grandparents, friends, I can say without hesitation that losing a child is more painful than anything possibly can be imagined. It is 2+ years now and life is better, but there is a joy to life that is gone now, that I would really doubt ever comes back.
My Job
Very challenging, design printed circuit boards for power supplies on satellites. Used education benefit from work to finally get my BS degree from Biola, graduated this past Memorial Day weekend, 2006! Maybe Masters next year? I think Elliot's condition will determine that schedule.
It did, Master's someday, not in the immediate horizon
