Ron ( Myrtle )'s Story
Life
Well 61 years of life has certainly been full for me. After high school I left home and hitch hiked around the lower half of the U.S. for 2 years working my way from town to town, 2 or 3 weeks here, 2 or 3 there and so on. I eventually ended up in Florida where love tried to corner me. Still left with alot of oats to sew I told a Navy recruiter that if he could get me on a bus in 2 weeks I would go, man was that guy good. I spent six years in the Navy. I finally settled back in Michigan. I am now a retired Firefighter/Paramedic living in Florida I love Florida. . I'm sure that as with most of you, the past 60 years or so have provided us all with a ton of stories and memories, some great and unfortunately some probably no so great. I love it when I get the chance to sit down with an old friend and hear some of those stories. I'm sure that the times have taken their toll on all of us to a certain extent, for those of us that have withstood the test of time, congratulations. Maybe the day will come when we can sit down together with a nice cold drink in hand and do a little catching up. It would be nice to share a story or two. Since the coming of Facebook It's has been really exciting seeing meeting up with old friends and catching up. It has been really amazing to see 60 yrs of life come around in full circle, to sit down and have a drink and talk to the same people that I drank and talked with 40 years ago. I really believe that it was my friends in my early years that helped me to form my character and personality that kept me on the right pa...Expand for more
th. I have survived this long, living on that foundation. It was my friends that made growing up fun. Anyway, I hope you all have a chance to make another 30 years or more worth of stories and memories. By the way isnt it amazing how young 25 looks these days. It would be nice to kick back and remember 25 again, hell i'd even be happy with remembering 30! What the heck happened to 30 anyway! Well Good Luck, Hope to hear from somebody!!!
Good Luck!
College
I had to decide between college or the Military, so I call the Navy my Social / Geographical education.
Workplace
Well as far as work I feel like I have worked a hundred or so small part time type jobs. These days my wife and I own a great business that is very successful and in my spare time I am a firefighter/EMT.
Military
As I said in my life Bio, I spent 5 years in the Navy. I got in to travel and travel I did. Everytime I ended a 6 month cruise I would transfer right over to the ship that was relieving us head right back out on another 6 month deployment. In five years I went to 52 different countires and islands. In the Navy, when we pulled into a foriegn port most sailors would go right downtown and get drunk. I learned early in my Navy career that the way to get the best out of my stay was to register with the local USO and find a family that wanted to sponsor a sailor for our time in port. I saw the best of every port that way.I enjoyed the Navy, I was not able to re-enlist due to a knee injury sustained in jump school early in my tour! (can you tell yet that I love to talk??)
