Ron's Story

Life As I sit here, pondering age and growing old. I wonder, why I don't feel old? I don't look old... ok maybe I look a little older. I have never been in crisis over my age or getting older but let me tell you, life is starting to hurt a little now! lol All those really cool sports we tried to play, all the really stupid things we did to try and impress or out do each other, they remind me every day with a pinch here or a jab there, "Man, that was really dumb!" My wonderful wife and partner in crime who has managed 3 degrees, 2 children and let's not forget, dealing with me on a daily basis, also works a full time job seperate from our business's. She offers any spare time as a volunteer to various family networks and is working towards that last Masters degree. Now people, let me tell you, when a woman asks you to let them know when you see a gray hair, a little extra weight or a wrinkle, DON'T DO IT! IT'S A TRAP! Trust me it will hurt a lot less if you just ignore it... At 37, yes 37, my wife and I have started our second small business which is a considerable feat since I swore I never do it again. I first wanted to do something that would benefit others and of course get rich doing it. Little did I know that the riches it would bring into my life would be in the diversity of people who would need our services. not however the financial freedom or the big house on the hill! The second business however seems to be the one where the money is and is doing great. However I will not abandon the first dream and will continue to make a difference with families where I can...Expand for more
. As a parent of a deaf child and a parent of a self proclaimed future Miss America, I wonder sometimes which child has more difficulties fitting the mold I have laid out for them. I have such strong beliefs that our children should never be a burden to society. They should be productive and always nice and respectful. I have raised my children based on the things that mean the most to me now, reflecting back on the memories of all those school years. Never be a mean person. Always take up for the under dog. Be supportive of your friends. Never start a fight but always finish it... That one I still have a problem with myself. My kids are growing but I still have reservations if they will make it to their 20's, you know the whole mean dad thing. Okay, back to sitting here pondering being old, that very thought maybe the single largest factor as to why I, went out 2 weeks ago and bought a new four-wheeler. Not the plushy cushy sit back and enjoy the view four-wheeler, oh no! The full bore race engineered make you feel young and invincible machine that has led me to this little outpouring of thoughts. I sit here pondering being old because I am so sore I can barely walk, raise my glass of water or turn my head... As I attempt not to move too quickly here, hurt written on every expression, my lovely 10 year daughter, with the wit to match points out to me, with a slight grin because she knows I can't catch her today or probably even tomorrow, "Dad, your getting older." Ah there's that old friend whispering in my ear, " That new four-wheeler may be the dumbest thing yet!!!"
