Ron's Story

Graduated from AHS and went on to get degree at Arizona State University. Was on baseball scholarship and was on the 1967 National Championship Team along with being selected as MVP in the 1967 College World Series. Signed with Chicago White Sox's and played in organization for 5 years, getting to "AAA" before retiring and becoming a teacher/coach in TUHSD (Mc Clintock HS,Tempe, AZ). He then helped open Corona del Sol HS in Tempe, AZ in 1977. Was selected by Walt Disney Productions as one of the top 60 educators in America in 1997. Ron was also selected by Corona del Sol High School as their Teacher of the Year (1995). Retired from teaching after 34 years in district. Has been inducted into a few hall of fames either as a player or coach (NHSBCA, ACA, AzBCA, Anaheim HS, Sunbelt Classic HOF, Louisville Slugger, Tempe All City Sports Association, Corona del Sol HS HOF, Arizona State University Athletic Hall of Fame, American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame) and served as the Executive Director of the National High School Baseball Coaches Association for 13 years (2005-2017). fter 50 years of coaching baseball, Ron finally retired (Feb 2020-corvid). Ron was inducted into the Anaheim High School Hall of Fame on Nov. 4, 2010. Ron was quoted: "What a great honor, not just for me, but for all those who were reponsible for the award (classmates, teammates, teachers, coaches, friends, and family) from all the schools I attended, taught, and coached at throughout the years" Inducted into the Arizona State University Athletic Hall on Fame Oct. 13, 2017. Something you never think could happen, but does. Again, great teammates, coaches, friends and people who supported ASU Athletics. Another honor was bestow upon Ron. He was selected to be inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association which is an organization of 10,000+ baseball coaches from every amateur level (College, Junior College and High School) across the country. This took place January 4, 2019 in Dallas, Texas. Ron is married to Dr Patty Vogel (1989) from Danville, IL. and he has a daughter (Cindy), a Granddaughter (Sarandan) and Two Great Granddaughters (Gracelyn and Lilly May) .
