One of Ron's favorite quotes is:"I'm going to egotistically quote myself. The firs piece is the second written. I'm going to contact the world record people about the greatest overuse of a single word. The closest I can think is Heine's Die Rose die lilie, but that was a rhyme scheme. It also rhymed with his name. The second is more "Hallmark" influenced, but it was after all a valentine on a 4/15 when the "L" word was verboten. Neither woman wishes to be identified. Both are copyrighted.
"Alone"
Alone
in the air she breathes.
Alone
where she has walked.
Alone
in the space where she eats, works, lives;
where the floor has kissed her feet.
I see, hear, touch the sounds, moods, worlds
her world have been, and echoes of her smile
my spirit haunt and taunt, “Alone…”
Alone in the night I rest my head where she dreams her dreams of better loves than mine;
of purer, stronger, saner, say, but other, say, but other.
I sit perhaps this moment where she pines for one who cannot know; without her he is alone.
Alone and lorn I dream my second fondest dream:
that she alone ...Expand for more
may know such joy as he alone may bring, not I; that laughing, she may sing and flushing, sigh
in arms that she choose well, and those alone.
Yet once within this place we stood alone,
and I, yes I did bask in that light of face and soul
that brighter suns than ours may envy, did touch with
my own hands those strands which angels weep to see.
And I alone did kiss with trembling lips that cheek
that roses blush to think upon. What Maker’s gift more rare, what boast more brave: “These things are mine alone!”
Owning alone this time so shared, “Alone” is from that day my lifebook’s name. For Alone is every place she’s not, and there I’ll be.
Who hears my songs will learn the price I gladly pay
for failing to ignore my heart’s own song. I’ll sing for this, of this alone.
Alone in throngs, with family, friends, I yet can smirk
to know the worth of worlds that hold such as she.
And in some life, some world she’ll know, or not,
the troth of a heart that once beat for her
alone.

"Because"
Because your heart's a phoenix
Because your innocence will not die
Because for love you mutely brave
the brands of calumny
Because behind chameleon eyes
old, youthful rivers flow
Because your soul's a rock on which
new vines of trust will grow
Because deceived, you seek
wounded you hope
silenced, you sing
burdened you try
Because your merest breath breathes truth
I wake, I know, I fly.
