Ron's Story
The following is my September 2021 update to my profile:
After graduating from Central Dauphin in 1962, I went to Lehigh University as an electrical engineering major and realized after two and a half years that was not what I wanted. So, I transferred to Shippensburg and became a math teacher. But, after teaching at East Junior High and Cedar Cliff, I decided in 1971 that I wanted to be a computer programmer and that finally worked for me.
My career in IT spanned 40 years I started as a computer programmer trainee at the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). In 1978, I moved to Stone Mountain, GA, married (for the second time) in 1988, moved back to the Harrisburg area in 1989 to work at PHEAA again and started working for Computer Aid, Inc. of 2000, CAI moved us to Tallahassee, FL for a contract job at the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE). In 2002, I became a full-time employee of the FLDOE and was promoted to Chief Information Officer in April 2005.
Although my wife retired in September 2005, I did not retire from the FLDOE until May 2011. From 2014 to 2018, I mentored Florida State University IT students in a workforce development apprenticeship program at the American Children’s Campaign.
My favorite pastime is playing golf about three or four times a week. I also enjoy some yard work and participating in a Christian ministry at Wakulla Correctional Institution twice a year.
If you’ve never added your story to your profile or haven’t updated it recently, I encourage you to do so and also add a somewhat recent photo.
