Whew !! St FX.....seems like a "century ago", huh ?
I hope this note....finds you in good health and happiness!
A walk around the bases =
U of A...took me to the States ....Canada had only the NAIT /SAIT techie angle but I want to study the medium....and procure a degree in MEDIA (television specifically). So that took me to a reference from a NAIT prof....and that reference was Wayne State Univ in Detroit Michigan.
The little ol' Edm boy knew nothing-from-nothing about "Detroit" ,,,,,so?...SURE !! The degree was well recognized in the field (whew!) so I had several job offers upon graduation. (again whew !!)
"nice" ...but to naiive me.....this Cdn boy wasn't too familiar with the black/white challenges........and thus I had to "fit in" the black ghetto near the Univ campus....and.... Huey Newton and the Black Panthers....took care of this silly white kid !! :)::)
It was "amusing" because they couldn't fathom what I was doing....so I was a real "novelty" for them. MY everlasting gratitude, guys....THANKS !!
So Television in my blood....UofA TV dept....morphed into a job at ACCESS TV..which turned into establishment of my own company....and....essentially taking the "ACCESS model" ie. Educational Television,,,,, to foreign countries. Even in the foreign countries I went to (see list below)....."television...Expand for more
screens) were in the even remote towns and villages....and they were glued to the screens. Thus a great opportunity to "teach" through television >> dealing with potable water all kinds of diseases / family planning etc etc.
"Great idea", Ron.....but you weren't aware of machine guns / malaria / typhoid and amoebic dysenntry..(??) (!!) I got a first-hand look at hospitals in Africa. (whew !!) Yah...."Edmonton" was a zillion miles away from that stuff !! It was....a LONG ways from home !!.......but I was in it for the long haul. :)::): My poor parents constantly wondered if I had lost my mind !!
Achieved my goal despite the above complications....and the adventure took me to Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, and Jamaica, Dummy me....Jamaica should have been FIRST because I probably would never have left !!! :)::):
That all in the past, I hung up my guns.....now settled on Vancouver Island (Nanaimo specifically)....and through all of my craziness.....my wife Gail didn't leave me !! :)::):
