Ronald's Story
Life
Hello:
After Central High and receiving my BBA from WMU, I hit the road for a career in sales. My first job was with Kimberly Clark; and thet relocated me and my young family to Dayton Ohio. In Dayton my third child was born in April 1969. After a year I found out they were real tight wads, so I called a company I interview with at WMU that was of some interest to me, so I went to work for the Anaconda Company immeadiatly, sell copper magnet wire to OEM industrial accounts. To make a long story short, I stayed in this industry 30 years, worked for three different companies - all competitors - 2 of which went out of business after I left, but I had nothing to do with that; I just got out the door in time.
This choice of career's was costly in many ways. I moved about every 5 years, losing friends and sometimes money in home equity if the market was down at the time. I also lost my first wife as she got homesick for Kalamazoo and moved back there. I moved from Kalamazoo, to Dayton, to Cleveland, to Orange County California, to Chicago (where I got married again) and had my 4th daughter, to Memphis (adding 5th child), and then back to California in 1988. My last company wanted to move me to New Mexico, and I said I...Expand for more
had a problem with that as my 2 youngest became Californa natives quickly, but also were enrolled in a private school where I wanted them to finish. The company's answer to that was a so called downsizing of the company, and they eliminated my position, 2 months before my 55th birthday.
So since then I've mostly been retired, although I did become an Insurance Agent, which has not been what I expected income wise, but I must say that's mainly due to me and not that business. Anyway that job loss ended up costing me my last wife of 22 years (too much of the good life), but at least my two youngest are grown and are on their own path of life. I now have 6 grand children, 5 in Michigan and a new baby grand daughter (09/04).
Now I'm like a gypsy and travel between my 7 acre ranch in Southern California, and Kalamazoo, Michigan where I have my three oldest children, and 5 of my grand children.
Who knows, perhaps we'll meet up somewhere.
Best Regards, Ronald Alger.
