Ronald's Story

Life Well, I was married in 1986 while I was serving in the Marine Corps, I have two beautiful Daughters ages 15 an 19. My oldest Daughter, Trystina, is attending Nursing School at Asuza Pacific University and my youngest, Nicole, is attending one of our Rival High Schools, Temple City.....Unfortunatly, my daughters were unable to attend Monrovia High School. If they would have, they would have been one of the first 4th generation familys to attend Monrovia High School! After service in the Marine Corps, I entered the Los Angeles Police Academy in January of 1988 and graduated in June of 1988. I was assigned to the Venice Beach Division of LAPD as a Rookie Officer. During my tour in Venice Beach, I was wounded in a shoot-out in November of 1988 in the Oakwood area of Venice Beach....During my years as a Police Officer, I served in many different capacities, I Worked Assignments ranging from Uniformed Patrol, Homicide, Gang Unit and Vice. In 1995 I graduated from LAPD's Motorcycle Officer school and became a Motor Officer and Traffic Enforcement/Collision Investigator. During my tenure as a Motor Officer, I was injured in numerous altercations and traffic collisions while assigned to Motor Officer Duty. In 2003, I retired from the Police Department on a Medical Pension. I returned to school and finished my 2 year degree in Aircraft Engineering. Due to the numerous lay offs and Aircraft companys moving out of Southern California, I went into business as a Partner in a floorcovering business in Rancho Cucamonga. I became a flooring contractor in 2004. Since becoming a flooring contractor, I have actually done two jobs for Monrovia High School Alumni from1983 who ive in the Rancho Cucamonga Area. I was divorced in 1994 and moved to Rancho Cucamonga and purchased a home where I have lived ever since. I am an avid motorcycle rider and I love to ride everything from my Harley, KTM and Ducati. My other hobbies include helping my partner work on his class 16 Baja Race Buggy and working as the Crew Chief during the Races. I also enjoy fresh water fishing, camping and backpacking. As for my motorcycle adventures, I have been to the Black Hills Ralley (Sturgis) two times, Hollister Run every year since 1996, Daytona Bike Week once and the Laughlin River Run evry year since 1993. As for my off road racing, I joined the AMA, District 37 Desert Club "Badgers" in 1991 and was an avid Desert Racer with District 37 until my more serious injuries in 1996 prevented me from racing. Workplace Well, as for High School, I worked at Arcadia Methodist Hospital in food service from 1981 to 1982. I hated that job. I will never scrub another pot as long as I live. During the summer of 1982, I worked at the Santa Anita Race Track literally shoveling Horse Crap. Another job "well done". I think I smelled like horse crap for the rest of the summer. As most of you may remember, I also worked as a sound and lighting technician while in High School with the wonderful Mr. Phil Rope. How many of you remember him! roductions and the "out of school" seminars and meetings the school district would put on during off hours and weekends in the auditorum. Gee, if I remember correctly, the School District actually paid us a wopping $1.62 an hour. Got rich off that one! Well, again, as most of you know, I went directly into the Marine Corps after graduating High School and served about 5 years active duty and 2 years active reserve. After my active duty tour in the Marines, I began processing for the Los Angeles Police Dept and The LA County Sheriffs Dept. During the processing period for my Law Enforcement Career, I was hired as the Assistant Personnel Manager at the Santa Anita Inn Hotel. How many of you remember that place during our High School Years. Remember the Parties. "ouch". I worked there for just under a year when I finally got hired by the LAPD. I worked with the LAPD for 15 years in numerous assignments and finally became a Motor Officer in 1995. I was eventually Medically Retired in 2003. I am now a flooring contractor and a partner in a wholesale/retail flooring company since 2002. I really enjoyed my years as a Marine and got to see some really great places around the world. My Law Enforcement career was also great except for the injuries I sustained. The one thing I miss most about Law Enforcement is riding my Motorcycle. If I had to do it over again, I would have not gone into Law Enforcement! As for my current job, I love it and wish I would have started my own business years ago! Military Well, as most of you know, I joined the Marine Corps prior to graduating High School in 1983. I went to Marine Boot Camp at MCRD San Diego and graduated Company Honorman......I was assigned to Marine Corps Infantry Training Center at Camp Pendelaton California. Upon completion of Basic Infantry School, I volunteered for Marine Ships Security Detachment Duty (Sea Duty)..I attended the US Naval Sea School at San Diego. I was assigned to the USS Carl Vincent Naval Carrier, USS Okinawa and the USS Paul Richard Friget...Upon my completion of Sea Duty, I had attained the rank of Corporal was elected to attend the US Army Parachute School (Jump School) in Fort Benning Georgia where I earned my "Jump Wings"..After jump School.. I was sent to Camp Lejune N. Carolina for advanced Infantry training. From there I went back to Camp Pendelton, earned my Marine Corps "Gold" wings. I was then sent to Marine Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport Ca. I was then Attached to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, Air/Ground Team. I completed my Marine obligation in 1988. I had the opportunity to travel to many different countries including South America, America Samoa, Midway, Hawaii, Japan, Okinawa, Thailand. Australia and NewZeland. I also spent 12 weeks in Scotland training with the British Royal Marines and graduated from their Combat Scout Course which gave me the privlidge of one of only about 80 other Marines who attended the course and the wearing of the British Royal Marine Badge on my Uniform. If I had it do all over again, I would. Upon exiting the Marine Corps for civilian life, I attained the rank of Marine Sergeant.
