Ronald's Story

School I spent 8 years in St. Mary's catholic school and 2 1/2 years at Metamora High School. Graduated through the GED system and later obtained an Associate Degree from the University of Maryland. I try to go back to Metamora usually every year during Old Settlers. I attended my 45th class reunion on July 12 2008 and my 50th Class Reunion in Sept 2013. I recently been in contact with many of my childhood friends such as John Link, Patty Volz, Randy Mullins, Janice Gieseking, Wayne Morris, Dick Shea, Jan Scheirer, Steve Yauch, Conny Corriegan, Mary Ellen Elbert and Carol Williams. Hobbies: Semi Professional Photographer and Treasure Hunting. I'm on Face Book and post many photos etc. Life I grew up in Metamora, Illinois, the Mayberry of the North. I loved going to Harvey Scheirer's and getting a chocolate marshmallow sundae. As kids we used to sit in the park and count the different makes of cars that came through town. As kids we all picked cherry's, made go carts from lawnmowers, went hunting, hiking, fishing and all the things that kids did back then when growing up in a small town. My grand father Joe Noe owned the local drinking establishment and my other grand father Frank Wagner was and insurance representative and one of Grand Marshals of Old Settlers. When I was 12 years old, I obtained my Restricted Operators Drivers License in order to help my dad in our business. I was able to drive from Sunup to Sundown. I started working for for my dad laying sewer pipe in town, building duck blinds on the Illinois river and later worked part time for the state at the Metamora Court House cutting grass, shoveling the side walks in the winter, riding the snow plows in the winter for Woodford County and cooking breakfast at Maggie Winklers before I went to school and later working for Frank Goldsmith at the local restaurant. I left Metamora on 13 March 62 embarking on a new adventure into the United States Air Force. I met my first wife Mary Dallas Rose when I was stationed in Newfoundland Canada. After 20 years of traveling in the military and many new friendships, I retired from the Air Force and moved to Melbourne, Florida in 1982. Went to work at Cape Canaveral as a Launch Complex Superintendent and also worked for Melbourne Appliance repairing refrigerators and microwave ovens. I have two children, Tina who lives in Palm Bay, Fl and Paul who lives in Glendale, Az and two grand children, Brittney and Brianna from Tina. Tina has recently divorced and has since remarried. Her new husband Charles Lyons, a future pro bowler. Charles has one child, Josh, and Tina and him are raising all of them together. I love going back to Metamora in June of each year during Old Settlers and seeing old school mates. Randy Mullins and I entered Basic Training on 13 Mar 62-Jun-62, 3726 BMTS, Lackland AFB, Tx. Airman Kenney and Witt were our TI's. I have recently communicated with Johnny James of St. Louis, Kent Altemus of Texas and Ed Currier of Oak Ridge, Tn of whom I was in Basic Training with and Basic Medical School in 1962 and advanced medical school at Gunter AFB, Al. I became good friends with Leory Kalloff of Freemont, NE and Richard Lucas of Ghent, KY, who passed away in April 2009. He was like a brother to me. I miss him very much. I was stationed at Lackland AFB TX, Medina AB TX basic med school, Gunter AFB AL, Offutt AFB NE worked in Base Publications 62-64, the 544 ARTW 66-68 and SAC Intelligence 70-71, Ernest Harmon AFB Newfoundland Canada worked in the refueling squadron and Training Library 64-66, Kadena AB Okinawa worked in the 376th SW, 3907 Cage 68-70, Clark AB Philippines, Osan AB Korea worked in Intelligence 72-73, Westover AFB MA worked in USAFR, Hanscom AFB MA, worked in USAFR, Minot AFB ND worked as NCOIC of Facility Maintenance Branch, and Chanute AFB Illinois, worked in USAFR 75-77 as NCOIC Tech Writing Section 81-82. I loved being in the military. It was a good life and teaches values that kids today are not taught. I believe every High School Graduate, male and female should put two years in the military, it would straighten out a lot of the juvenile gang and drug problems that this country has today, because it instills that sense of discipline, bonding, need to ...Expand for more
belong, honor and pride that all Americans should have and kids are looking for. It provides that need to belong, to be someone, something and to be needed. After 20 years of traveling in the military, and two different career jobs from Medical Coreman, Air Force Intelligence, Air Force Recruiting and finally I was a Minuteman Missile Facilities Superintendent and after 5 years of harsh weather in North Dakota I decided to retire from the military, take my pension and give civilian life and try a warmer climate. I moved to Melbourne, Florida in 1982 and went to work at Cape Canaveral as SAB/NPF /DPF/ROCC and Complex 30, and 46 Launch Complex Superintendent responsible for all facility maintenance for those facilities to insure the military could launch classified military satellites, foreign payloads and other satellites such as the NAVSTAR GPS and DCSCS. At 57 years old, I had already retired from two jobs, so I opened my own teach at home computer business and photo restoration company. In August 2008 I moved to Huntsville, Alabama. It's a beautiful place with no hurricanes. I love hiking and this is a great place for that and photography. Huntsville has have 4 mountains within 20 minutes to hike on and great one day trips to Nashville, Atlanta, Chattanooga, Montgomery and various little historic towns and many other places to go hiking, shopping and many other activities. I was previously stationed in Montgomery at Gunter AFB from Aug 1962 thru Nov of 1962. I'm 69 now and have been retired for 9 years. I like to travel and have become a semi-professional photographer with pictures published in a two coffee table books. I like looking for treasures and hiking. In August of 2008 I moved from Melbourne, Fl to Huntsville, Alabama to start life over with Carol Louise Williams. After a 3 year dating relationship and a short engament Carol and I were married on 1 October 2011 and have built a new home in Allen, Texas. We moved there permanently 15 June 2012. We went to Germany on 26 Nov 2011 for a week and 1/2 of Kris Kringle markets tours. We visited Nuremberg, Dresden, Albstadt and many other places, returning on 3 Dec. In May of 2013 we went to Italy for 14 days, visiting Pompeii, Rome, Venice, Florence, Assisi, Fesoli and other small villages. Absolutely loved it. Drank wine every day and had gelato and pizza. In Sept 2013 we went home for my 50th class reunion. Had a great time with old friends. End of April 2014 we traveled to Sante Fe, NM for a week and enjoyed the change of scenery and food. In June of 2014 we traveled to Colorado Springs and visited with some friends whom I had not seen in 37 years. It was great reunion. We then went on to Crested Butte for 5 days visiting with Carols daughter Cheryl and her husband John who were celebrating there 20th wedding anniversary. On July 2nd to celebrate Carol's 66th birthday, we left for Amsterdam and on the 5th we took a Viking River cruise from Amsterdam to Bezel Switzerland returning to Dallas on the 14th of Jun July 29th we visited Jackson Hole, WY, Grand TeTon National Park, and Yellowstone National Park. We are going to Metamora, IL on 7 Oct 2014 for a Class Reunion luncheon and for a cousins wedding and then on down through Nashville to Huntsville, Al to visit family. In April 2015 we took a 14 day pilgrimage through Italy, Israel and Jordan through a church in Houston along with 4 other friends and a total of 71 people. Wow, what a trip. Ran into Rachel West Kramer from Metamora in Tiberius, Israel. The world is smaller then you think. We recently built a new home in Huntsville, Alabama and moved to our new home in May 2020. Church I'm a Christiaan and firmly believe in the bible and in Jesus Christ and attend Lamb of God Wisconsin Synod Church, Madison, Alabama. Wisconsin Synod is strictly a bible believing and teaching church. They don't add to it or leave anything out of it. I have become active in the church as a main usher, church photographer, created and update the church directory and have painted numerous rooms. I have a strong faith, embedded with love and hope and the promise of God. I plan to stroll across heaven with my wife Carol Wagner and see all my Christiaan family and friends
