Rosemary's Story

Life I married Bob Walker in 1968 and in June will be celebrated our 53rd anniversary. We have 3 children, Christopher, age 46, Mason, age 43and Amy age 40. Christopher is a journalist and is currently the CBC morning show host with "Daybreak South" working from Kelowna. He has a son, Ethan, age 6. Mason has a business degree from U. Vic. and is now a real estate agent in the comox valley. He has two boys, Sage is 5 and Kai is 2yrs. Amy graduated from UVic in 2006 with a degree in Sociology then continued at UBC for her Masters in Education. She is teaching in Nelson. Amy has a baby daughter, Indi, 3 months old. We lived in Richmond for a few years and started Walker Door in 1975. In 1981 we built a house on Galiano Is. and moved there permanently for 23 years. Bob commuted to Vancouver for work while I stayed home with 3 little kids. We sold the business in 1987 and two years later built and operated the Woodstone Country Inn on Galiano from 1989 to 1992. We took another two years off then redeveloped and operated Montague Harbour Marina from 1994 to 2001 when we finally retired, totally exhausted!! We were very involved in Island life politically and with volunteer work ...Expand for more
which is endless in a small community. We sold our place on Galiano and built our retirement home in North Saanich in 2003. I volunteer for Victoria Hospice as a community companion and I also conduct audio interviews of patients' life stories. However I have recently decided to cut back on volunteering as my husband now has Parkinson’s. I have been a member of 100 Women who Care, Saanich Peninsula for many years .i love hearing about local charities as well as speaking on my own favourites: Victoria Hospice and Ovarian Cancer. Bob and I have traveled extensively all through our marriage and have had many scary but wonderful adventures. I have finally left the church for good. It's true when they say you can leave the church but the church never leaves you. The recent discoveries of children’s’ graves near Residential schools is shameful; I doubt the church will ever recover from this. The only classmate I kept in touch with is Jill Walker - she left Little Flower after gr. 10. Jill died in 2020 of a chronic lung condition. I really had fun at our reunion 14 years ago and would love another. I would love to hear from anyone from the class of '65, especially Fran Doyle.
