Rosie's Story

HI! Since High School, I got married and had two children, one boy and one girl. Served in the military, had another child, got a degree, worked for great corporations. Got married (second time), bought a house in Las Vegas where I currently reside. I served in the Air Force Reserve for 6 years, traveled to several places world-wide. I worked for GTE in Long Beach for 7 years. I went to Coleman University and earned a BS degree in Computer Electronics Technology and an MS in Information Science. I gave birth to a third child, a girl (who is now 25 yrs old and is out of the Army BUT she is a contracter in Afghanistan). She's in Intelligence gathering. I worked for SAIC in San Diego for 7 years as a Product Support Specialist. They sent me to Greece for system installation and to several of the Air Force Bases in the United States. I had this crazy idea that I could have a Day Spa business, so my eldest daughter and I went to Je Boutique in El Cajon to be estheticians AND manicurists. We are registered by the State Board of California. So, I quit my job and worked on my business. Apparently, Lakeside females THINK to get a great facial, micro-dermabrasion or body wrap, they must spend LOTS of money... we were charging 30 percent less to attract customers; after all, Lakeside and El Cajon were our "home girls." So, after that fiasco, I worked in the San Diego County Jail for a year as a Booking Clerk. We decided to buy a home in Las Vegas because the prices were great! (2004); but, they kept going up and up in price, so we waited and waited and waited. In the meantime, I brought my mother to live with us. I took care of her until she passed away. She was 83 years old. So, then we brought my mother-in-law to stay with us and I took care of her until she passed away, December 24, 2008. She was 94 years old. My eldest daughter married a nice good ole country boy from Tennessee. They've been married for twelve years and just barely had their first child two years ago!!! He's in Iraq now. She had her second child in August 2008. She's only 4"10 and he's 6'4". He makes BIG babies. So, here I am again taking care of my daughter and my 4-yr. old and 6 yr. old granddaughter (like I'm complaining.... NOT!!!) We love them so very much. So, in the meantime, I've been taking classes at College of Southern Nevada to keep up my skills in computers and Electronics. I will need to go back into the work force soon. I am thinking Slot Machine Technician. Heaven knows there's plenty of casinos out here! But, then again, the job market is so hot, so I might just have to write a book or something. I make great cookies and great pies. I cook excellent Mexican food AND Hillbilly food. I have a good recipe for possum stew on my MySpace website! No sh*t. But, where can I get on opossum here in the desert in Las Vegas?! So, I guess I'll wait to cook that. ;-) UPDATE: We've lived here in Las Vegas since 2004. It is now 2012. I am now a part-time professor at the College of Southern Nevada... as well as a student. Well?! I can't help it I love computer electronics technology! I have to keep up with the new and emerging technology! Hahahaha.... STORY WIZZARD: Answers to "Story Wizzard" I hope people remember me as being a nice girl and friendly. There was one time when I was taunted and taunted into picking a fight with one of my friends. I didn't want to do it and I wouldn't do it, but I finally gave in. I wasn't very good at it, but she got the point. I felt so bad afterwards. I cried that night. She REALLY was a good and nice friend. I never did hang out with those girls who asked me to starat a fight with her after that. I always wanted to be a Vegas Dance Girl when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a stupid idea. As it turns out, they were right! I like to go next door where my grand-babies are. We play and have fun when I need to blow of steam. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have gas in the car , a kiss from my husband, and prayer to God to be able to deal with the day-to-day. I used to think Tarzan and Spiderman were my heros. They help people and fight for their rights. But, then, after time went by, I realized that my mom and my dad are my true heros. They taught me everything that I am today; a good, honest, intelligent, hard-working citizen and with love for God and family and family values. As far as sports go, I used to watch baseball, football, fishing and the olympics. I do have a passion for rollerskating. My family enjoyed rollerskating all through my childhood years, (except while I was in Arkansas). I built up great legs from that! I don't really watch the reality shows. I have enough to concentrate on in my own life ...Expand for more
to have to watch someone else mess theirs all up IN FRONT OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE! My biggest surprise in life is that I found out I wasn't the ugly duckling my "friends" made me out to be. I later found out that these friends weren't really friends at all! I would love to see Mr. Ghillardini from El Capitan High School again. He was Italian, married to a Chinese lady and he taught Spanish! He loaned me a book about Don Quixote that was written in Spanish and he expected me to actually read it. Well, I did. It was difficult, but I did. Then again, I had my mother, who is Mexican, and she helped me with the words I couldn't pronounce. I learned patience from my kids. Are you kidding? You have to be patient to stand all the crying. I also learned to "listen" to them when they have something to say. I always stop to listen to them. They are people, too, just little and with a desire to learn. If I won $100 million, I'd give 10% of it to my church, then spend a lot of it on tuition for the grandchildren, take the family on a world cruise and place the rest into various accounts and stocks and bonds. . I lived in a one-room Dorm while I was in Basic Training with 49 other women. It was interesting and for me, it was fun; for other women and girls, not so much. I lived in a dorm while I was at Chanute Air Force Base with two other females. We had lots of fun, but we always had to study our craft and we helped each other. We didn't drink or party or carry on during the weekdays, but on the weekends... PAR-TAY! We were like different people! Even some of the girls were even likeable! Poor guys. There were like 100 guys for every female. Heh-heh-heh. It was like a blooming candy store! Some girls went hog-wild. Some of us, did not, especially if we had boyfriends or husbands at home. I had a boyfriend. I kept true and honored our relationship, but that didn't stop me from having a good old time! :-) To be truly happy, I would be just where I am, with my husband, loving life together. This is what I've always wanted since I was a young woman. Couldn't find or trust love before. I was finding it in "all the wrong places." But, I've very happy now. My current age is 56. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be fat, bald, old, wrinkly and nice. I was so completely wrong about that. This millineum, people are healthier, live longer, look better, but some are just creeps. I have achieved my career aspirations. I wanted to be intelligent, beautiful, have a life partner, enjoy life and be at peach with God, and I have done so. I earned my MS degree, I keep up with the my health, I have a wonderful husband and family and I teach at a college in Las Vegase. Life is good! I don't know what happened to him. His name was Leo Bridgeford when I attended Rios Elementary School. I know he got married and had children and named one of his sons after him. But, I've often and fondly remember him. He was very nice to me. I even held his hand once outside. Isn't that silly now? My best friend would tell you I'm funny, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as a serious person. Do I still dress like I did 10 or 20 years ago? Are you kidding?! I even wear clothes from the 70s! I still have some jeans from back then... they're a little worn, but I still have them... LOL... I still wear the "waffle-stompers," boot-belled jeans, halter-tops; not so much the cut-off shorts with the bathing suit top with the tube-tops. I still like the Peasant blouses and the long skirts. And I absolutely loved the 80s! I don't dress like that, but I'd love to. :-) My daughter won't let me. LOL I've never had a wierd job. I can't think of one at all. What would I have done differently? I would have listened to my parents. My first friend that I made was back in 1963 when Valery Sprately moved in to our neighborhood. We were as close as peas in a pod. Then I moved to Rogers, Arkansas for 6 years. When I returned all I could think about was being friends with Valery again; but, she had changed and had a boyfriend. I was shy and to myself. We didn't have the same things in common any more. I used to see her from time to time after she got married. I missed being friends with her. She was really nice. What about me would surprise everyone at my NEXT high school reunion? If anyone remembered me at all. I don't look the same and I'm not shy and quiet anymore. LOL!!! I will never forget the day Valery and I got into a hair-pulling street fight in front of our homes because of Leo Bridgeford! I told her he was MY boyfriend and she told me he was HER boyfriend so we had it out. That was in 1964, I think. Fourth grade. Either way, he wasn't interested in girls anyway. lol
