Rusty's Story
So far so good... I've had a great life so far because of a great wife, kids (including the best daughter-in-laws a guy could have!) and grand children. Never had a problem with any of them and for that I'm truly blessed
Mary Sue and I have watched the two older boys do well academically as well as in their sports from grade school through college. They were spaced in age such that when the oldest was a Senior, the next one was a Freshman. This spacing and their athletic abilities brought the planets together to where they played together in high school on their State Championship Soccer Team.
They both earned scholarships to play soccer in college after both were named to their respective All-State Teams their senior years. They both completed college earning their degrees and their partners in matrimony!
The oldest was retained by his University after completion of his senior year to be employed as the Assistant Coach. While coaching in a sport he fully loved, he was able to go on and obtain his MBA. His younger brother finished his degree and is also coaching soccer, but at his High School where in May of 2009 they went on to win the State Championship. He has returned to college with the goal to gain the additional hours necessary to sit for a CPA License.
Our remaining two children, another son and our only daughter, were six when we adopted them from North Dakota. They are 21 now and true joys to our family. They recently completed classes at a local Career Te...Expand for more
ch Center and are readying to venture into the world of employment next month. Our son is a special needs child who has limited vision, but I think someone forgot to tell him he was ¿Disabled,¿ as he has competed with his Special Needs Basketball and Soccer Teams for years as well as the Special Olympics. His sister forgets sometimes that she is not his mother. She has felt the need to watch out for him since they were young, so getting her employed will give both of them a break!
I had always told Mary Sue that when I could retire, I wanted to do so at some lake, creek, large pond... That hasn't happened, primarily because both of the boys married (up) and started homes within 2 miles of our home. Now they both have children with the oldest and his wife having a 2 1/2 YOA daughter with another on the way!!! The other son and his wife had a son born just before Christmas. Now, we couldn't move if we wanted to!
Mary Sue is still working as she is a real people person (or it may be that she thinks she is keeping her CPA brothers office afloat!). I retired after over 33 years in law enforcement, the last 25 with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. I left as the Assistant Director in charge of the Investigative Division, but spent 14 years in charge of the Information Services Division (ISD).
Health problems made me hang it up, but it was fun while it lasted! I totally enjoyed the feeling of "giving back" to my community and state.
Now I just give, give, give!
