Ruth's Story
Life
I have t Master's Degrees and have worked for over 20 years. It is funny how it takes us this long to realize the things that are really important in life!
I am finially to that point in life where I can do those things I would like to do...if I have time. I went to Hawaii last year and I have tried to go on a cruise at least once a year for the past 5 or 6 years.
Summertime was busy with building fences and painting houses and such. I did get a chance to go to the beach and tubing down the river with family and friends. I am planning another cruise for this coming year, along with taking my daughter to Vegas for her 21st birthday.
I enjoyed band a great deal. That was my main social outlet. Before school, band class and after school band practice.
The after football game dances--the band dances and the formals were all something I looked forward to.
Crushes: I had several--Mike Krause, Kenny Signorio, James Watson, Ron Leffingwell and Bill Pomerenke to name a few.
Ginger Wing made fun of me on several occasions because Kenny held my hand and would carry my books as he walked me to class--so I told him I could not be around him (since Ginger and a couple of others laughed at me)--Silly me...
James Watson--I went to a backwards dance with him and I don't think I talked the whole time. I did give him cheats for Math class since I had the class before him.
Mike Krause, he was in band and the few times I talked to him I thought whatever I said was dumb and he would think I was dumb so I avoided him (even though I liked him). I would watch him from across the room in band (What a weirdo I was!)...and is he a D...Expand for more
octor now???
Ron Leffingwell, I had a crush on him from jr. high and part of high school. I wanted to go to the prom with him but I was afraid to ask--so I asked his cousin Doug Epperson--I figured that I would at least get to see Ron at the dance...Only they both worked at the same steak house and Doug traded nights with Ron so Doug could go to the dance with me--Needless to say my plan to double date or see Ron didn't happen.
And Bill Pomerenke, he had a girlfriend--but I ended up going out with him on the sly-- my junior year and part of college--but no one knew it because he had a girlfriend...and he didn't want to "hurt her feelings" or break up with her.
If there were a way to go back in time--there are some things I would do differently! I would have the self-confidence to talk! I would participate in more activiities--and enjoy my teenage years more.
But since we can't go back in time--I make up for it with having my kids around me and being a part of their crazy lives. My daughters ages are in their 20's. My house is usually full of their friends. We bar-b-que, share stories and work together to make life as full as possible. There has been some craziness here. My son--15 years old--I don't support all the antics he does at school with his average of 20 suspensions each year--(and expulsion meetings) but, sometimes after listening to his reasons why he does the things he does, I think about it and realize...if I were in his shoes, at this point in time, in this society as it is--I just might do some of the things he does!
Life...Grasp it, enjoy it, and make the most of it in the best possible way you can.
