Sam's Story
Life
3 years at Annandale High with progressively lower grades as I learned the joys of skipping classes with my thug-wannabe friends. After a failed attempt to overthrow Jim "Nobody Doesn't Like" Tidball as class president, I spent my senior year in Smithville, TX, where I learned practical things like smoking cigarettes and drinking beer. True, the highest math offered in Smithville I had taken when I was a freshman at AHS, but I was BMOC having come from the big city, and this afforded me some wonderful dates. I FONDLY remember 1970-1971.
The skipped math year hurt as I struggled through electrical engineering at U of Texas at Austin. But I graduated in 1975 and started my career with LTV Aerospace in Dallas. For the next 24 years I worked at NASA/Houston for McDonnell Douglas, IBM, McDonnell Douglas, IBM, and finally Motorola in Austin.
After years of dating with relationships lasting on average 3 weeks, I met Susan Bailey in 1980. We've be...Expand for more
en married since 1982, upping my relationship-duration-average considerably.
In 1999, I decided electrical engineering was not as much fun as selling imported French Limoges boxes over the internet, so I switched from being a Program Manager to a Trinket Hawker. A subtle but discernable change. But I love it and have accepted that being a kept husband is not so bad (Susan is a big dog at IBM).
No kids, 2 cats, a bunch of deer, raccoons, and the occasional scorpion at our "ranch" near Austin (as of 2002).
My most gracious thanks to teachers Ms. Aspinall, Ms. Opp, Mr. Ailstock, and Ms. Adamcik; it's true what they say about a great teacher. My thanks also to Debbie, Janet, Peggy, Loretta, Brenda, Jackie, Terry, Vicky, Love, Connie, Tylene, Kathy, Elaine, Jeri, Tawana, Janet, Judy, Marsha, Sandy, Sharon, Donna, Heather, Cindy, Ellen, Bronwen, Kathleen, Linda, Cynthia and Sandra, who collectively taught me that the heart is a resilient little muscle.
