Sandra's Story
12 years of Catholic School education and I still couldn't read very fast. Maybe it was because at St. Vincent's there were 70 to 80 kids in the class. College was difficult the first year so much reading, therefore, I went to work. Good thing I had some business courses my senior year.
I worked at Shaum Electric for 32 years. Started out working in billing, then the computer department, then office manager of all the accounting and computer departments. School was still necessary so I went to IU for adult education and some regular accounting and business courses.
The longer I was with Shaum Electric the more responsibilities I was given and then the family "kids" grew up and were taking over some of my duties. So, I learned how to help with the construction ...Expand for more
bidding, reading blue prints, learning the software and helped with the billings and the job supervisors. At the same time I was doing this, I was also Corporate Secretary. I loved all my working career at Shaum.
1986 brought many challenges. I was in a very bad car accident when I was hit head-on by a drunk/drugged driver. I spent about 2 months in the hospital and there was a lot of healing. Thank God for my family and my boyfriend, Duane. He stuck by me the entire time and we were married a year later in Sept. 1987.
I did a bit of traveling before getting married. I traveled to Hawaii, Spain and many trips to the DC area and Florida. We still find time to travel now that he's retired.
There's more, but.......it's blah, blah, blah. See you at the reunion.
