Sandy's Story
MI POEMA ULTIMA
The saddest of all lies
Can be seen in my eyes.
Of all the lies I've lived to regret,
There is but one I could never forget:
The night I let my foolish pride
Lead her to believe my love had died.
Though she had asked that we once more try,
Somehow I managed not to cry,
But with hubris, nay anger, these words I said:
"I choose instead, 'A stranger now to share my bed.'"
And so my life has been filled with pain,
As I live that evening o'er and o'er again.
Ever the romantic, I endured the weeks, the months, the years,
All the sadness,the madness and the tears....Expand for more
Hoping somehow my eyes might see,
A serendipitous blessing befalling me.
Alas, no muse or angel heard my cry,
And so, all alone, I will surely die.
CODA
One final thought - - -
Tho' prudence warns me not:
Should fate perchance allow to see
Her ethereal visage stand before me---
A kiss to her hand;
A walk in the sand.
Perhaps then I would endure;
With thoughts refreshed and memories pure,
Whatever fortune might have in store.
Though I know we can share never more
The reveries which once were ours,
And dreams beyond all mortal powers.
Adios, y vaya con dios mi amor eterna.
