Sara's Story

Life Been married more than once, just got married to the best man ever in May 2006. Have one biological child, Jennifer, age 41, and five step-children: Guadalupe, Elena, Estela, Gabriel, Eva. All are married and have their own kids, some of whose kids also have their own kids. I rec'd BA in education, taught for a few years, then switched careers and went into social services. The last job was as a social worker for WA State. Lived in Wa, Ca, and MN. BA from CA State U-Fresno, am bilingual (Spanish) and considered to be multicultural by those who know me well. Lost parts include thyroid, parathyroid, and certain others I won't tell. Brain is in decline, and body parts going. Diabetic (insulin-free thus far, allergic to keflex, and joints don't work like they once did). Can not do Jumping Jacks or run very much either, any more, but I have not found the need for either of these skills these later years. My husband (married 5/13/06) is originally from Butte, MT and works as a senior programmer analyst for Nintendo's financial group in Redmond, while we live in Renton. the goal is to retire at 65 and move away from this area to somewhere quieter: Yakima or Butte, most likely. We have pets: three cats and two birds. I promise to answer any queries. Going for some if the Story Wizard this day: 10/28/09 . . . !. I hope old classmates would remember me as being someone with a quick smile and a weird sense of humor. I still have those, most of the time. 2. Wildest thing i ever did in SCHOOL? I didn't do too much that was wile IN SCHOOL. That came later, after I'd graduated. What? Oh, yes, my best friend and I went to a guy friend's home and let ourselves in through a window, somehow and stayed there, because it was December and we were freezing. He Wasn't home. We kept a light on in the second bedroom and we sure scared him . . . his face . . . he was REALLY glad it was us and not a thief or somethng. 3. My hero is God and it is Him that inspires me. I am finally at that age where I only care what He thinks, because He is my Destination. My other heroes have mostly been pacifists: John and Robert Kennedy, Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Teresa. 4. I;ve lived in Edmonds, Seattle, SeaTac, Olympia, Auburn, Yakima, Selah, Gleed and Union Gap in WA. And in Minneapolis for all of nine months. In Patterson, Los Banos, San Jose, San Franciso, Fresno and Clovis for 16 years. And Brigham City, Utah for about a month. I've probably lived n nearly as many different homes as I have years, too, while I was in Edmonds my first 21 years )except for a few months living in Seattle with friends. And n Olympia for ten years. Close to four years in Renton and 2 1/2 years in Auburn. Mostly the moves were for jobs, but not all of them. 5. Only one person from my past that I'd like to see again? No way! Chris van Dlac, Ellen Pearce, Sandy Jolley. Richard Bartlett, Steve McMurtry and everyone who also went thru the Edmonds schools as I did. Then a few others I only remember from the second half of our schooling: John Williams, Roy Maier. And those who have died: George Horluck, Joel Burke, and other i can't find anywhere: David Hald and Mike Steele. 6. What did i learn from my kid(s)? Depended on the kid I was dealing with at the time. One I didn't need to spank because the punishment could be to make hi go into his room and stay there for a while. Worked for him because he loved being out and doing things with his little buddies. that never ever worked for me, because i was an only child and would always find ways to entertain myself. I've learned that each one is so totally different from each other one and to re...Expand for more
spect those individual attributes. To be an even better listener and to Never spoil them . . . do fun things but don;t spend every cent you have doing that, spend time together and have fun, be silly, etc. 7. Teachers? Hmmmmm! Mrs Stone from 4th grade, although she died in the late 1980s, Mr. Bumgarner who knew that my dad died around Memorial Day 1960 and actually told me he felt sorry about it. Not one other teacher or student ever did. Dr. Waddle at Fresno City College (Spanish and linguistics courses, Bill Riddlesprigger, the Black English Studies instructor at Fresno City College. Dr. Dikran Kouyoumjian, who taught Armenian language, Dr Cecilio Orosco, who taught classes that dealt with Mexican cultures, so may others . . . . 8. My current age is 65. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be almost dead. I was so completely sure. When i was six, I though 12 was old, though too, or at least pretty close to grown up. Hah!!! 9. First crush was David Hald in Kindergarten. He and his family moved and i have no idea what happened to him. Second one was John Wingate who moved after 5th grade to Yakima, where he still is. Then there was Mike Cranmer in 7th grade. He apparently died in the 1960s or 1970s. Others all went away and/or grew away. 10. ALL my jobs were weird. Ok, ok, no, there were a couple that oudid the others. I worked in Mineeapolis PT as someone who would be in the time-out room for a program for kids who could not control themselves. Sometimes I had to basically wrestle them into "submission" or into the little woooden "jail cell" and loci it so no one else could get hurt. I hated the job and didn't feel good about it at all. 11. I share my home . . . that is my husband's home . . . with him, three beautiful cat-kids and two rare parakeets. Outside there are assorted other mamminals like raccoons, squirrels, and other undomesticated wildlife that chase each other over the rooftops at night. Spiders, and slugs are out there too. 12. A do-over? Keep my daughter. 13. In ten years i hope to be 75 and still in reasonably good shape, especially mentally. I'm going to get there by taking good care of myself. Or I will have gone to the places my grandmother lived and find out who our Native American was. 14. John Wingate is my oldest friend ever. We met in kindergarten. I'm not sure why we clicked except we laughed a lot as kids and we both needed to do that. We always had great imaginations and had lots of fun pretending situations. We've always been able to talk to each other about most anything. 15. My first job was at S. L. Savidge in Seattle, not far from where the Greyhound Bus depot is now. I earned $.75 an hour. What I remember most about working there was that I was sleepy a lot because I stayed up too late. I was a file clerk. 16. Childhood memory I'll never forget: At age five, I was in the old library and went under that table in the study area. there was a moveable piece of linoleum and I could see into the JAIL underneath. But there really wasn't much to see . . . no evil bad guys were in there. 17. I always wanted to be a nurse, social worker, and teacher when i grew up. I also thought I wanted to be a photographer. Never did become a nurse, but have been a teacher and social worker. I don;t think any family knew that, but I didn't go to college and university until after my Mom died in 1969. I got really serious about it and went for bilingual elementary education. They would have been proud of the fact that I went to college and university, and got my BA. 18. Blow off steam by getting away if I can, emailing friends, and reading. Joking around too.
